  • Museum rennovation

    This is my latest. The interior is very preliminary and empty but is plenty challenging for me since I havn't done an interior for years. I'm happy with the lobby but the lighting in the atrium seems flat.

    Not that I wear them, but wouldn't a stilletto get stuck in that flooring? (i.e. I think your joints are too wide/deep).

    Quite nice subtle lighting though.

    Put some joints in your curbs.

        Good start, you need to pay attention to real world sizes .. the ceiling tile would generaly be 600x 600 with a 15 mm gap in between and the floor tile would be around 500 x 500 with a gap of say 3 mm ...

          doors and windows do tend to come in different sizes and i find nothing helps the feel of scale like either people or objects that people can directly relate to

            true, other people are the oldest reference we know... their influence on spatial perception is enormous

              Nice work. I like your interiors, but I have some comments on your exteriors. Your 3d grass looks great, but some variance in color would help some. I would not want to skateboard on that pavement. Turn down the bump a bit and add some oil splotches and streaks. Also the large noise pattern in the curbs overpowers the small noise bump. I prefer to use a bitmapped image for them.

                Thanks for all the replies. As far as scale goes the ceiling and floor tile are actual size taken from the arch dwgs. Of course the joints did look like cravasses. I'm adding entourage now, maybe that will help. I borrowed bpozas idea of the white marshmellow people. I kinda like it but I think I'll order a collection from axyz and go with fully textured figures. BTW I'm having a hell of a time with this scene crashing. I've tried merging into a new scene, tried 2 different computers with different graphics cards. It's not a maxtreme issue. Modeling was done very carefully. I have to save a new version every 5 minutes and revert back when it crashes and burns. Worst...scene...ever!!!

                  does it crash while working on it? (in max) or while rendering

                  have you tried layers to seperate the elements (i.e. hide not needed ones)
                  i can suggest onion from blur's scripts
                  contrary to max's layer system someone over there had a clue about usability

                    It crashes while working on it. Mainly when navigating a viewport, especially after rendering. Strangely it only happens in the interior, I can navigate around the exterior and run test renders no problem. It eventually reaches a point where it crashes upon opening it and I have to revert back to the last saved version. Sometimes it crashes when changing camera views. It happens with shaded view and wireframe, maxtreme and direct x, different video cards, different viz installations, and on a friends machine with max 5. I've hidden all unneeded geometry. And I've merged everything into a new scene. The only thing that seems to help a little is to always keep the 4 viewport configuration and not go to a single full screen viewport. Anyway I'm making progress with the entourage. The "cosmic" wall is a planetarium and that planter is not supposed to be blue in the 2nd image. Do the people seem to dark? They are from got3d.com.

                      I really like the "clay" people, they give a sens of scale, and they look waybetter integrated than the RPC and/or pictured in people..

                        These last two I find very pleasing end very good. Last one ppl a bit too bright but don't find them annoying to the shot.

                        I prefer to exclude the luminaire disks from GI, personal taste here.
