  • Vray Sun 'n Sky animation using LWF

Pretty basic, but just wanted to test Vray sun and sky using LWF.
Still kinda WIP, but I probabaly wont do any more on it.

Scene is actually a Maxwell scene that I converted for vray (very basically) and tried to replicate and then thought I may as well make an animation out of it.

So it seems Vray Sun and sky works well with LWF once you get the settings right
No colorcorrect, no pre-processing of maps, or post-processing.
    Just LWF "1.0/0.45454 style"

For those interested, render times range from 1m to 1m45s on my X2 4400. Using LC/QMC

And here is the end result. *clicky clicky* 6sec XVID 1.7mb

Its good to know that linear workflow works well with everything

      thats pretty nice,
did you used a domelight for the VRay sky, or just in the override?

          Nice one, daforce!

let's not turn this into a flame, BUT.
Wouldn't it be easier to work linearly, end expose afterwards?
Or is it easier this way for you, so you keep working at 8bpc depth?

i should mention i pretty much skipped any lwf post so far.
So i CAN be given a scuffle in case it was already answered.

            hehehhe...

Yeah you can expose it afterwards... by all means..
But for this I just wanted to see if Vray Sun and Sky worked with LWF. As previously myself and a few others had always gotten very washed out renders.

So i just wanted this to be quick and easy. Hence using gamma correct (1.0/0.45454) and LC/QMC to speed things up.
Also define easier.. this was pretty damn easy. No need for any post work. But also may not be as GOOD as some other methods.

This certainly wasnt a "best LWF method type of post"

For production purposes I would use whatever suited best at the time. Possibly post... possibly not.

              aaah, ok, cheers.
Maybe it's the morning, but i thought all of a sudden i missed something very important...

Nice to know it's a matter of tastes :P

What codec is required to view this animation? It won't play on my system.

Ahh oops I had that written next to the download, but i must have deleted it.

It requires the XVID codec, you can get it here.

The codec name was probably there, I just didn't know what it meant.

Anyway, nice animation. Maybe someday the rest of us will have Vray sun/sky too.

                        gadzooks:
It was using Vray Sun and Sky. The sun was linked to the max daylight system so I was easily able to plot a location and time span to get a proper sun movement. And then link the Vray Sun to teh Dayligh and turn of that sun and just use the Vray sun.

                        Frances:
Nah it wasnt there.. I added it back in after you brought it to my attention.
Thanks I hope you all have it soon as well

i found that vray sky/sun ONLY works right with linear workflow.
with default gamma the sky is too dark and heavy.
