  • WIP kitchen using LWF

    Hello again,
I have started using LWF for interiors now....however it seem s to me that the image is much more noisier than if usi good old HSV.....does it mean that when using LWF with gamma color mapping 1/0.4545 i need to hidgher all the settings?
Right now the image is rendered with these settings:
    IRR medium/LC 1400 at 4 passes
Adaptive QMC 2-5 plus Mitchel Netr.
QMC noise reduced to 0.003 and min samples to 25
One direct light (vray sphere at 20subd and 0.5 mult.)
One light in the window opening (plane at 20 subd and mult at 0.5 )store with irm unchecked

PLease note that this is an early WIP...some textures have not been finished yet and the modelling as well....it looks like the image lacks light...do you think the noise might be caused by the lower light multipliers?

    Here is the image:

have u checked Vlado s universal settings thread?
it might help u out a bit....nevertheless i sugest u keep all ur mat and light samples at 8 and then control the global multiplyers in the rqmc rollout...
u need a stronger key light, and ditch the plane light in tha window...use the environment rollout to get a blueish strong fill light and adjust both key and fill to ur needs using a greysh material override...
hope i have been of any help...

thanks ene.xis...it seems to do the trick with the lighting....so basically it means to forget all about the older flow with putting the lights in the window openings...LWF is more than a good substitute for those

          min subdivs 25
          key light at 0.3
          environment at 5.0
          noise at 0.03

its about finding the right balance...ill probably have to drop the environment slightly and the key light as well to get better contrast in the shadows...

noise is almost gone with these settings...rendertime is almost 40 minutes altogether on quite slow machine (1gig ram, 2.4 single core intel)

            its looking very promissing!
but i would fix that flooring....the grouts are to big, and too bumpy...and u need some reflection and some nice glossies there...oh...and colorcorrect that map...it s lacking color information....
that will fix ur exagerated light boom on the right....cause i think the balance between the key and fill is great!....might just bump it down a notch both.

            r u using vlado s universal settings?thats a prety good render time i reckon

oh....and...u should add some (don t know the word in english) where the floor meets the wall.....

yeah.....i know what you mean...i dont know the word in english as well...
...as i said it lacks some modelling....

i did no t use vlados universal settings...

              Ive got
IRR for primary bounces at medium (60, 30 subbdivs values)
LC for secondary at 1400 subdivs and 4 passes
QMC nise at 0.003 and minimum subdivs at 25
and Adaptive QMC aliasing at 1/4

will give it another go tomorrow...will post asap

              thanks for help

For your future use, the word you're looking for is 'baseboard' here in the US.

i would reduce the environment light a little, there is too much blue on the walls now

Silly? It's a board....at the base...of the wall. WTF is skirting? That's something a girl wears.

I think the real reason the US split from the UK was so we could make English make more sense

Nice shots, teabag, btw. I wish my LWF trials were going as well... The curse of exteriors...

here is another update....i will start adding more detail to the scene now

the floor is geometry because i wanted to have a complete control over the boards...one mat on the floor still needs some tuning... and i still havent decided on the color of the chairs...
