  • 4 color room with a twist

Thought I might try something a little off the track and test out some of vrays capabilities.

Have a look at the little animation and try and work out whats going on/how the room was lit given there are NO lights in the room at all.

Nothing fancy but something I found rather interesting.
Ignore the low quality render because I wanted to keep times down, 4-5mins a frame with LC only.

Ok im completly confused by that one
Is it some kind of spinning self-illuminated map in the lil dome at the top?

hmmm..no idea either...but given the oddities on the ceiling i assume it's some kind of projection ?

          hehehehe

All will be revealed tomorrow morning when I get to work.. about 12 hours.. but please keep on guessing!

So far your all icy cold

The oddities on the roof could have been avoided if i had more time to work on it. But i think they help add to the mystery

And those few of you who know what it is.... please... keep your yaps shut.

vray dome light with 4 color map attached to it (i know it is possible in the 1.49x versions).
then you spinned the vray light and render?

Yes. To me it seems to be a color map which is mapped onto the sun/sky system. The light then falls through a lens and becomes projected onto the walls.
And DaForce will de-mystify this test tomorrow. Because we all will get Vray 1.5 the day after tomorrow! I think 1st of July is a good date to deliver 1.5

my guess: you have not animated the light but the map on those objects

heheh guys... sorry but not even close

I can tell you now this is something that anyone can create

                          No animated maps.
This is something that can be created with current publically release builds...honest

Well its 2:15am.. just got back from playing BF2 with a mate and im knackered..off to bed with me.

Will give some hints I guess....the box/room is completely solid except for a small square hole in the floor.

ah... is it a bright light shining up from the hole in the floor to the hemisphere on the ceiling. The hemisphere being coloured in segments, R,G,B and white. The light that is reflected off the hemisphere is coloured by its base colour.
                            ie, coloured caustic reflections?

                            ???

its an optical illusion... there's no animation at all!

... in fact this whole thread turns into the Sixtine Chapel if you stare at it without blinking for 2 minutes...

... come on tell us ...
