  • townhomes in H-town

Here is an exterior WIP of some speculative townhomes in Houston. I think I am starting to understand LWF. C&C welcome.

Because of the low light in the scene due to LWF, I had a lot of noise in shaded areas, which will explain some of my settings.

    Settings:

    Vray 1.47.03
    LWF (32-bit .exr method)
Adaptive QMC: min 1 max 4
    IR/QMC
    IR: High 8/20
    QMC: subdivs 8 bounces 5
QMC Sampler: Adaptive amount 0.5 Noise threshold 0.001 Min samples 16 Global Subdivs multiplier 16

    Cheers,

    Aaron

Looks cool... although the colors are abit in your face

The driveway texture there needs some randomness in it I think, just to break up the evenness

Yeah, I'm hoping the architect decides to tone it down. Though, its funny because after several years of working long distance, rather than agree on a color, we finally just decided it was easier for me to get it close, and then post the PSD with all the paint colors on separate layers so they can tweak it themselves.

I think you need camera correction as the buildings look to me like they bulge at the top.

Actually its the opposite. I used camera correction to simulate 2-point perspective. The vertical edges are all actually vertical and parallel which creates the illusion. I hate using camera correction, but in this case the client disliked the natural 3-point distortion.

Thats funny that you say that about the photoshop file...i did the same thing a little while back but with people. Basically i set it up so that the architect could move people around in the render to wherever they wanted them. It sure beat the headache of how often they changed their minds on little stuff like that and me having to re-render. The render times were really long so i had to do something because of course they always want the rvisions yesterday!!
