  • ruins (3d still + 3d animation)

This time I wanted to really concentrate on proper texturing and realisim. Creating this scene took me 5 months of my free time big hugs for my girlfriend Kate for her patience when
I was sitting in front of LCD . Everything is modeled by me and all the textures were created from pictures I took with my digital camera Canon Powershot A95. In this scene ther is no texture that comes form any internet source or texture libraries. So there was a bit of modeling, lot of uvwraping and even more work on textures in Photoshop to get it right. I also did animation with these piece. Camera move and hand shake comes from short recorded movie also with my A95. I tracked movie in boujou and movement exported into 3dsmax, few tweaks and here it is. I'm sure there is much more to do but I think it's high time to move on to work on something new . Whole scene is Anyway I hope you will like it. I'm thinking about writing tutorial for these piece cause I found few nice tricks to produce dirty looking textures for example on hose without problematic uvwraping. Final scene and animation was rendered using Vray. Software I used was: 3dsmxx 9 + vray, photoshop, bodypaint, zbrush, boujou, adobe premiere.

    WOW!!! That looks very good!

But maybe you should add some displacement to the walls. Especially the walls with those large bricks look very flat.

      excellent
i really am a fan of old rustic scenes scenes like this. congrats on your piece. the detail, lighting and textures are all top notch.
i assume you used sun/sky/physical cam. the animation has a bit of blurring. was that from the vray cam or something else? the cam shake in the animation really sells it well. i checked out 2d3 boujou...they want 10 grand for the software....ouch.
      looking forward to the tut

Fantastic work! I love the lighting and texturing especially, well done.

I highly recommend you put together a tutorial, as you mentioned. I know that I'd get a lot out of it, and there are always more new and elegant ways of doing this work.

        Thanks.

            Gr8 stufff!Truly inspiring!

the downside are the vertical and horizontal lines...they probably shoudn t be so vetival nor horizontals...but thats a minor detail comparing to the texturing and lighting quality in it!
            congratulations!

wow...exellent work! I always said that good texturing will add a lot of realism to the render.
Some notes: The wall inside on the left feels a bit flat. Also the wall on the left infront could use some dirt where it meets the floor. Quite clean there.
              Otherwise, very well done!

Very nice work Lukx, is the front wall on the lower left displaced or is that a well placed texture?

ya man very very well done!!!
I would say, add some film grain to that and you got a very solid demo piece!
                    How long to render?

                          Great job!

The corners are all way too sharp, even a new stone or plaster building would have a bit of bevel/chamfer... old walls should be really worn.

But the texturing is quite well done indeed!

I'd add a bit of dof to blur out the back wall. I'd also lean something up agains the wall under by the window. A bike, some sticks, paint cans, something along those lines. Your crumbling wall could use some displacement to hide it's edges. And the errosion on the bars is too uniform. bars in the middle would probably corrode more than the ones on the ends (less protection from the elements) and likewise vertically there would be less corrosion at the tops and bottoms. Perhaps a dirtmap could be used to blend the displacement a bit, and get some color variation in there.

Overall, very very impressive job. Keep up the good work!
