a prop (a very intricate prop) for my film. All of the inside and undernieth is modeled since the shot calls for the jeep to be jumping over the camera on a sand dune and you get to see all the underworkings of the jeep

                  excellent modeling & textures.
is this the model you were having u-joint troubles with in a previous post? would you mind posting a screen grab that shows the helpers in the scene. i'm curious how you went about doing the steering rig as well. i hope you keep us upadated as you go...its looking real good. hey are we invited to the premier in barbados?

for the u-joint i used "wire peramiters" i used one of the wheels as a rotational reference. then i basically said that the rotation of each link was wired to the rotation of the tire.

Looks great, how long did it take you to model the car guts?

about a month on the guts to get all the links working. Its going to use that car plugin from http://www.newplugins.com/ so for those of you who know how it works i will have 4 dummy wheels and 1 dummy chassis. The modeled wheels will be linked to the dummy wheels and the modeled chassis to the dummy chassis. all of the links will be using standard max controlers (like the "lookat" controller which i use a lot) in order to appear that the suspension works. and as said before the u-joints as also setup to work based on the wheel rotation.

the leaf spring took some thought to get done. i modeled the sispension flat. then had a spline drawn through the middle of it with 3 vertex to the spline. the middle vertex was set to bezier curve and the two ends remained as corner. then i made 3 dummies over each vertex. the spline had a skin modifyer added to it with the dummies acting as the bones. then the leafspring model had a skin modifyer added with the spline as the bone. the two end dummies on the spline were linked to the chassis and the middle dummy was linked to the tire rig.

the pistons basically utilised dummies on either end of the piston with the piston shaft using "lookat" controler to point it to the piston chamber and the chamber used a look at to point it to the shaft. this allowed them to always remained lined up perfectly when being pulled apart or pushed together.

more or less im using my wheels and the chassis as my controling objects to make it look as though the suspension is responcible for the bouncyness but they are being controled to look that way.
