  • help with my first pics

Hi, i am new in vray, and this is my first project.

Please give me some critics - about everything - to get better!
Are they to washed out? Is the light ok, how are the mats,..........

This pics are only for preview, and i will render them with olis
    settings.
I changed the burn value to 0.8 and the gamma to 1.4.

    Thanks

    Tom

    Thats actually not too bad

However I would think if those lights in the ceiling are meant to be turned on then the images especially the first one would be a bit bright, perhaps with some obvous hotspotting from the lights. Subtle tho.

      Thanks.
But now i have a timeproblem.
The image will render about 10 hours with olis settings.
I have about 20 Area lights in the szene, and some light materials.
I know this is a lot, but how can i come down with render time!
(Because i have to make 10 perspectives till tuesday)

        What settings are you using?
What subdivs have you got set on those 20 lights? And do you really need 20 lights?
Less lights will result in a quicker render. But may not look as nice.

10 hours seems way to long, especially if thats the reoslution your rendering at.

Render Settings like oli (ir and lc with the changed paramters)

I have taken the vray planes with standard settings.

Does the vraylightmtl also take a lot of resources, because i
have about 30 objects with this material too. (only to fake a turned on light.)

The Reflections in the Winebottles take very long time.
          Can i reduce the Reflection?

The calculation of the Lightcache takes about 1 hour.

And i saw in taskmanager that only 800mb ram are taken (i have 3gb)?

          Please help!

What is the max depth set to in the reflection of your wine bottle material? It probably doesn't need to be any higher than 3.

Also, I wonder if collapsing all of the objects that are emitting light through the VRayLightMtl into a single mesh would affect calculation times. Never tested the differences, but I have always done that when using the VRayLightMtl

I know that if you had 30 individual VRayLights in your scene, it would cause it to slow down quite drastically. I would imagine that having 30 seperate objects with the light material applied would behave similarly.

              thanks for your answers!!!!!
              but i need some more

the max depth is set to 5 i put it on 3.
is it the same with refraction?
in global switches the max depth is on 2 for refrection/reflection.
what are the max. transp. levels(50)?

how can i simulate lightning spots - but they dont should give light, only color? (i made the light with an big plane)

              thanks again

today i also saw in an other camera, that the wineglases ar not realy round. also the same witch the hanging lamps.
                what is here wrong?
i modeled it with acad and bring it to viz2007 with file link manager.

                thanks

apply turbo smooth to your wine glasses
                  . to increase subdivisions.
if you find a bug...kill it.

Now i render the finals, and the prozessor is at 100%.
                    The images take about 8-10hours.

Why are only 800mb ram taken (i have 3gb, and swap file to 9gb)?

9GB swap file... talk about overkill.

Set to it like 1-2 GB max.

Maybe the scene just doesnt need more than 800mb.. a scene will only use what memory it needs.
If you are using dynamic memory however that could lower the memory usage alot.. and also slow it down abit. Make sure you are using static memory in the Vray: system rollout.

there are many things you can do to make a scene render faster. Things like lots of lights, glossy materials, displacement, reflections/refractions, etc. can effect the rendertime. Try a simple grey material in the override slot and see what sort of time you get. Then you can see if the lights or materials are slowing things down. You might also want to try checking 'store with irradiance map' on any vray lights to speed things up.
Maybe use the default quality settings for IRmap and lightcache at 500-1000 and see what rendertimes you get.

looking good though. I would do some work on the brick material.

                          Thanks for all!

I tried do delete unseen geometry, and it is getting better.
The glasses an bottels need a lot of time, everything else is without glossy.

if the refract colour on your glass material is anything but pure white (255) it will take approx twice as long to render. You can also drop the subdivisions and max depth as already mentioned I think.
