  • wip tanker, thanks for your help guys!!!

    hi there....
it's a project i am working on right now, and apparently,
    my sea sucks.
any idea how to make the sea real nice? i mean the wave.
i am using vray plane, and noise in the bump slot...
been struggling with the wave, no luck yet....
    thanks

stretch your noise in the bump in one direction to make it more like waves

I think you should try and find some picture that somehow matches the camera angle, and if possible the time of day.
It should be easier to match it up properly.
Big improvement, imho, from the first to the second picture.
You might try and add some bigger noise as a mask to some larger or smaller waves, and break up the repetitive pattern a bit, or to create some "flatter" areas here and there.

Try adding three or four different sized noise procedurals with the mix map thingy. Also add an inverted smoke map stretched in one direction (as per Da_elf's post). The more variation the better.

i stretch it by going as low at 0.1 or lower sometimes in the u or v slot of the noise tileing

by the way, this waves make my ship looks small. maybe i should scale the waves even smaller...

You'd have, well out at sead, 2 main components to the waves: the big swells and the waves you're working on now.
Try adding these swells, the "hills" of the sea, and see if they return you some more proper scale.
You could probably just displace (or even model, what the heck, they're just a curvy, regular shape) the swells, and leave waves as bump.
Add a depth fog, too, that will help with the sense of scale (ya know, big sea, far distance, water vapor...).
                      Getting there, by the way.

The latest water looks good, you could still benefit from scaling the water down...still get the scale model boat feeling..
Could be down to the lack of details on the ship, and the chains on the front of the ship also look out of scale..

                            i'll do your suggestion,
i think the chain is a little bit bigger than the original.. almost 2 times bigger ... well, need to amend that. thanks for the comment
