  • Aston Martin - first post

    Hi folks,

I'd like some constructive criticism of the material on the car please - I've been looking at it for way too long! The model is still a rough..

The hdri is burning it out too much so the reflections and diffuse are too hot - stick some falloff on the material using either a falloff map or the fresnel tickbox in the vray material. have a look at the tutorials on http://www.cg-cars.com/ too - there's a nice studio setup tut in there to give you a more balanced render.

I agree. Here's another one with tweaked lighting and exposure control

            tweaks

here's another go with a different type of paint texture.

DaForce - don't have permission to look at the posting on the CG-Cars forum, although I am registered there.

I live right next to the Aston Martin works, and the model is taken from pictures, drawings and measurements from the original cars.

I uploaded the material for you
                http://www.apex.net.au/~daforce/vray...MTL_silver.rar
Might take abit of work to make it green, its a pretty complicate material

Can you show me a pic of the front of one of those cars, from a side-ish angle. I really think there is something modelled wrong at the front, just doesnt look right.

                  not a wasted weeked!

here's the latest incarnation of the Aston. Ignore the model for a moment, I know there are problems with it, but that's not what I want you to look at.

I've gone back to basics with the scene, and fiddled with the textures (thanks DaForce). I'm really quite happy with it as a "studio" look.

Let me know what you think.

Looking good, however I think the highlights should be strong, i.e. crank up the lights abit. Have you tried putting in a HDR reflection env to see how it looks?

Also to fix your IMG links at http:// to the begging of your image link.

                      Hmmm...

Here's the latest - you can see from the number it's taken a little while to get this looking right, but I think I'm finally there. Just got to get the brake discs looking right now.

I can't see or get to the image.
                        www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

                          Hmmm..

I can see it OK, I've removed the space from the name anyway. Have another go...

                            Looks pretty cool.

Is that a modification of that paint from cgcars?

                              Paint

Yes it is. I fiddled around with some of the settings.

I was having a crisis with the paint, and went back to how I have sprayed cars in the past (I've rebuilt a few Triumph sportscars, and currently have a GT6 convertible) so I went back to basics with it all.

The three layer paint texture is great for metallic surfaces, but I've tinkered with some of the graphs for the fallof, and also the IOR. Thanks for that Da Force.

Just got to get the model complete now - then I'm into the GT6 model!
