Just a really quick one - rendered in about 5 - 10 minutes @ 3000pixels using DR, using Irradiance Map and LightCache. The setup time for the scene was a couple of hours, modeled in XSI, imported into Max, rendered with the V.
Rendered to float EXR, with a linear work flow, downsampled in Photoshop.
Only bit of post was a very small bit of glow.
The hanging cylinders have a VrayLightMaterial applied to them, which is the only illuminating thing in the scene.
Vray Rules.
Are you guys switching over to XSI? Is it any good?
Far from it, but we have a new guy who we are trying really hard to switch over to Max and Vray from XSI. Thing is, XSI can export almost seemlessly into Max, at least we haven't had any problems yet.
According to him, it's way better, and from what he's shown me, it'd pretty nice package. Giga-poly rendering and modelling - puts max to shame, apart from the rendering!
Thing is, i think when you know a program like max and Vray as in-depthly as you do when working with it everyday on a wealth of different styled projects, it seems like it's a pretty rounded package. I totally think XSI is very decent, but Vray just rules. simple as that, it's just so freaking good. I just don't want to switch renderer's, especially with all the things i see coming up - the new animation modes for Irradiance maps, better OpenEXR support, all the nice small things like Override exclude etc. Vray just keeps getting better and better....
