A recent project from our group. I am proud to say that I personally played a much smaller role in this project than usual! I gave just a little direction on materials, lighting and rendering.
    C&C welcome

May have an interior to show later from this, and possibly an animation if we can figure it out and if it turns out well.

Those are great, lighting is spot on! The leaf color looks unnatural though and I would like to see some variation in the plants on the 2nd image. Joints in the wood decking seem a little big too, maybe smooth the rocks a little.

Your trees and plants are awesome, but the shadows are a bit too harsh. Thumbs up!

Leaf color always seems to be a recurring issue, never can get it quite right.

Trees were a big focus on this project, we needed some fresh geometry and a little more experience with onyx, so we took advantage with this project.

A quick PS fix for the asphalt :

They are breaking ground this coming Friday and would like something for the local media to look at/show. We are running another set of renders through tonight, and will probably do the same tomorrow night. I will forward your suggestions and complements on to my team! Thanks guys!

            Looks pretty damn good.

A little harsh on the eyes tho.. very contrasty. I think thats to do with the dark dark shadows and very green trees.

            Looks great tho. Very clean.

How about something like this? I used the shadow/highlight thing to get some light into those dark shadows, and i've desaturated the greens a tad.

Yeah I think that looks a lot better.

That bus just needs abit more yellow and your set.

Oh and there is a funny white halo around the foreground trees.

                  great lighting, really great lighting!!
The thing which disturb me is the lack of texturing or a bit dirtying on the roof /asphalt, I think you can have a master image with more texturing in the flat area IMO

Wow! That made a big difference. Thanks pailhead! I was just looking at a test print and it came out very similar in saturation to your adjustment, but the shadows were still very dark.

The halo comes from the quick Photoshop work to give the asphalt more depth

The roof is very clean, not really sure how to introduce interest aside from the specular highlighting.

The animation seems to be shaping up well thanks to the help of Brian Smith on another forum

Thanks again for the kind comments and help in improving this project! It has been a side project for nearly 4 years, and was scrapped and restarted in March of this year to conform to the improvements we have made in our processes(mainly the quasi-LWF). It is our first project that we have used the VRay Sun and Sky in, hope to see more requests for it now in our more common work.

I would like to say thanks to chaosgroup for your hard work in developing such a wonderful render engine, it almost makes it too easy

looks good. As said about the asphalt, also fix the plants in the third image. They look like identical copies of one another, which they are. Randomize them. Good work, sharp images

I wouldn't tamper with the roof. It's pretty good as it is, it looks new and it looks real. If you were looking for the patina effect, than i would suggest adding some surface variation but i think that this is more than adequate.

I like those plants Morbid just mentioned, but i do think that they are too evenly spaced or something. I'm not really sure whats it about, since i do see a slight variation in their rotation, but maybe you should run one of those random transform scripts and add a bit of scale variation, as well as some more rotation.
