hi I think this is niceliy done too.
wine glass on floor looks a little strange to the eye, if is under chair or near. complicates eye. maybe you can move a little.

Nice image, saw this on cgtalk also.

Most of the time dof is composited so if you do want to use it you could always use a photoshop plugin like lenscare. Its much quicker than calculating at rendertime and still produces good results if used subtley.

Would be good to see some wires and maybe the lighting setup of your scene.
                Regards

Yeah I know - thats how we normally do it, but this way looks a lot nicer and I wasnt exactly under a deadline. I was trying to stay away from any postwork with this one too, theres only the very subtle glow in sunny parts and a small adjustment to levels on the floor near the bottom of the bed.

Lighting is pretty standard stuff, its just reinhard and sun/sky.

Wires/shaded/setup (not really suitable for a real job, ive taken a few shortcuts...)

a bit dark i feel, id go for more washed out exterior and brighter interior with camera settings.

                    very nice overall though.

                    whats with the bipeds?

werticus - Scale reference, thought i'd throw some in for comparisons and make them non-renderable.

Amazed me how much it helped actually, little things like door handles & skirting you can just do by eye and not even need to check, then you can throw in quick poses onto furniture to make sure nothing is too far out - I'm normally the kind of guy who sticks to measurements and needs numbers to model, so to take that near-OCD desire to check everything and get me doing everything compared to human proportions/by eye has sped me up quite a bit.

tct70 - its just a standard camera, there are no special settings.

Looking really good, what about a cheeky piece of artwork on one of those walls?
The apartment looks expensive, if it were mine i would expect a bigger radiator!

Think thats one of the nicest looking interiors using vray physical camera I have so far seen.

Did you use any other lights in this scene, other than Physical sun and physical sky?
