  • vray grass

I haven't seen much posted using vray fur for grass, so I thought I might give it a try. I was quite pleased with the result:

Vray fur, Vray sun/sky/physicalCam. Tomato courtesy of Turbosquid artist, narowprospect, the only free tomato model on the site .

With the map features, I think I could use it to create some clumps of wild/decorative grasses as well. I'll post results on that later.

Thanks. I didn't use any of the mapping features in the fur rollout for this type of grass. I just used a large map of grass for diffuse for the ground plane and the vray fur. I also added glossy fresnel reflections to the vray fur.

Looks great , just wondering does it use up much ram whilst rendering

                Hmm nice result.

                did a quick test also,

But it does not render very fast.

I would say if you need closeup fur is good, further away and large area's displacement will do.

Hey nice. Yes, I agree it is slower, but not hugely slower. I am currently putting it in a foreground of an exterior arch viz render I did a while ago, and its only adding maybe 15 or 20 minutes to a previous render time of about 2 hours. I have discovered however that it makes LC prohibitively slow (like 12x longer... if it would ever even finish), so I had to switch the GI to IR/Brute force.

RE: Memory usage. When rendering the view above, with just the ground plane and vray fur object, using DR, it seems to peak at only 1 gb of ram usage.

I think the tomatoes are very realistic. I hate the way they just stare at you just before you chop em up for salads.
Oh and grass is the best ive seen, care to share it or just some settings?

I used this texture map that I bought about 4 years ago. Its okay, but not as good as it sounds. I've spent some time removing the dead spots and adjusting the color:

                          http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPrevie....cfm?id=240824

                          And here are my settings:

Also, the ground plane is comprised of 100 mm faces.

                          Cheers,

                          Aaron

Thanks, I dont seem to have a Taper option which sucks so all my blades are rectangular. And rendering at those settings crashes my machine every time so I need to mess about for a while.
Good grass these days is very hard to come by..

                              No doubt

                              Btw, very funny:

Doesn't sound like you have too much trouble finding it...
