    Very nice results!

I never really had any luck with VRay fur for creating large areas of grass. To some extent, the fur rendered fine and fast, but above a specific amount always came a dramatic performance loss. For example grass on a 100x100m plane rendered fine, but on 120x120 it took ages to render. Never really understood why, since the memory footprint of the 100x100m grass was far from the memory limit of my PC.

    Best regards,
    A.

      vrayfur

It would be nice to be able to toggle v-rayfur on/off. It would also be nice to have it add less information the further it gets from the camera.

Fur will render faster if you increase the dynamic memory limit in the system rollout. Especially on 64-bit machines, the default value (400 MB) is low for good performance.

          Best regards,

I always do this now regardless and it stops my scene crashing if i have a lot of proxies or displacement objects.

              Memory

If you read your log it'll give you a warning if you memory is to low.

So what value is the most reasonable, if I have 3 GB of RAM installed on my x64 OS? Are there any workarounds on this?

By the way. The Fur-Image with the Tomatoes, it's really well done. Thank you for sharing your Fur settings with us.

And what about 32 bit machines? Say, my laptop with 2Gb RAM?

What about computing LC for secondary gi? This usually takes ages for fur, even on a nice dual quadcore with 6 gigs of ram (xp64).

Like I mentioned above, I had to use IR/Brute Force instead of LC, because the LC looked like it was going to take hours.

                        did a quick test also,

But it does not render very fast.

I would say if you need closeup fur is good, further away and large area's displacement will do.
looks good pixelstudio but where are your tomatoes...

I have a taper option in 1.5 SP1. Look at my settings on page 2 of this thread.

Maybe taper was added with SP1? The fix would be to upgrade...
