Bit of a lull in paid work at the moment, so I busied myself with a 1 day personal project recreating an agricultural building by German architect Hugo Häring. Texture mapping is a mess because I couldn't be bothered to fix it..

The lamella roof structure was modeled in rhino using a plugin called panelingtools. I'm sure it would be easy enough to model in 3dsmax too, but i've been mucking about with panelingtools for a while now and it was very quick.

Rendered using vlado's good ol' universal method (in max), with a threshold of 0.03 or thereabouts because I like noise vignetting and dof in vray, glow in pshop.

wonderful stuff, 3 and 4 are my favourites, and I love the idea of rendering a model of the building within the building - superb..

If your after a constructive criticism, I think the glow is way way too over the top, and makes it look CG> you might have been after that look, but I think it would look much more real if it looked a bit more of an optical glow...

Incredible roof, very nice renderings, my only crit would be the glow, it's too strong.

Nice Images. I agree with the previous comments on the glow. I would just tone it down a bit.

thanks fellas! yes your are probably all right about the glow, although the photos I based it on did have quite a bit of glow too: http://www.flickr.com/photos/seier/2...n/photostream/ plus I didnt want to have to put anything outside.

looking forward to trying this scene out with sp3 volumetrics!

                Renderings are quite nice,
My critic would be that I feel it looks like a miniature, ( if that's the wanted feel, ok..) I feel the image like a small place, not the grandiose atmosphere.. but mabee it is just me.. Of course, I am not talking about the section shoot, but about the other shoots

                Great work

agree with the above point, kind of difficult to grasp the actual scale of it. maybe the textures' scale has something to do with it, or maybe there's not enough detail in the lower part of the building.. not sure about it.
and I'd go for a bit more subtle bloom too.

You're both spot on about the scale, the roof should really soar above you, in an almost monumental way.. but it doesn't really have that effect. Maybe needs something else lower down to give it a sense of scale, and the crappy rushed textures don't help.

Might address those when sp3 volumetrics comes along.....

You really should work a bit on the compositions, the materials and the lighting. A bit too much contrast right now, and the woodwork could really use a bit of randomness. ...and this will be a truly exceptional piece of art.

                              Best regards,
                              A.
