  • map for road material

hi, this is my last rendering.
one thing i don`t like is the road. i would like to make it more realistic.
actually i try to achieve this with an ao-pass and look around to get a good map. if someone knows where to get a fitting map or has other suggestions i would be very thankfull. generall c+c for the image welcome.
    thx

Overall I like the image, very well balanced. Two distractions for me though, the road, as you said, and the grass in the lower right.

For the road, ambientlight has some nice, cheap solutions:

    Inclusive Road PSDs
    Asphalt Textures

Maybe replacing the DOF grass with some shrubs with a more subtle blur would fit better in that location

        thanks for your replies,
@percydaman: picture was made for printing an fitted well for the print with less contrast. added a version with level adjustment.
i don`t have a calibrated monitor. i produce images for print and adjust them on the printed results. never had the time to deal with professional monitor calibration. which way do you calibrate your monitor?
@beestee: thanks for the links. will take a look there tomorrow.
grass in the lower right should be shrubs which are made in post as the area for the lawn was too big...

Overall I like it. Nice angle, nice lighting, and nicely framed. The couple things I noticed were the road (like you said) and the gray building on the left.(or what I assume is a building representation)
I tend to do post work to the road or pavement.(painting or with photos) I can never get it quite how I want it to be in the render.

            Here you go:

Throw your lines and arrows on top of that via the composite map.

As far as the road is concerned, you could try this out. My method is to paint a dirt map in photoshop and use it in a VrayCompTex as a multiply. Since your road looks pretty straight, it wouldn't be too difficult. Use that nice asphalt texture as your base, and the painted dirt map as your CompTex. Its a pretty simple way to get something less clean looking.

The image could use some contrast as well. Try putting the sun coming from the right to make the left side of the building in shadow.

thanks for your replies, and special thanks for the nice asphalt texture.
made a new road and i am quite satisfied with it. in the front it is a litte bit rough mapped, but as i will crop the lower third of the image its ok for areas in a distance from the camera.

also tried ao pass for the street, but was not satisfied with my results. one question. is there a way to get a render element mask of the ao-pass and adjust it in post?

I think your road needs to be a little darker...

Nice work. I would love to see this a little more developed material wise.

awesome design! visuals look great. the people are nice, abstract, but quite active/descriptive. how did you do the people? photoshop?

i was also thinking the road could be a bit darker, but looking out of the window and the tarmac looks the same colour. cartain types are darker (esp. when they are freshly tarred)

                      nice!

thanks for your comments. one more rendering. not my favorite camposition as the perspective of the house is not dynamic - but i wanted see my new street in the front
@mhenry: which material especially i could take more attention to?

maybe you can try making the people black instead of white. Or give them a black outline, or just leave them out all together. The image just seems incomplete to me, maybe it's all the whiteness... (but besides that, it looks good). Maybe also try some yellow lines on the side of the road? Or some birdies in the sky? Or some flowers between the walkway and the grass?
                          Kind Regards,

@add101: forgott to answer, people are made in photoshop.
@dvp3d: picture is made for an architectural competiton. the architect generally wants it to be much more abstract, white sky-less kontrast etc.
will try a tight black outline for the people.

In that case you might try playing around with VRayToon to give it some nice black lines.
