  • Office WIP

A couple of WIPs of a small office im working on at the moment.

Lit with an environment color (light blue) and a yellow standard spotlight for sun. (+ some ies lights but they are hardly visible)

Ive added an overlay layer in PS with a warm orange colour closer to the windows/sunlight and a cold blue-ish tone further back in the room, to make the image more interesting. Maybe i overdid it? What do you think? I also rendered it with a 2.0 GI Saturation. With the default settings the image came out pretty flat.

Not my design, and some of the colours/materials are just placeholders for now. But I would love to get some input anyways. Deadline is tuesday so I have a couple of days to make the images better.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I think its a good start, but you should pay more attention to detail and content. At the moment everything seems very hard.
I think you should look at the room as an empty space without all the desks and stuff, put seals on windows, model the CAT2 lighting, put a trim where you have the suspended ceiling coming off the bottom of the drop down, like an L shape to cover the grid, model or buy some nice Delta lights and replace those under the dropdown.
Your partition screens would probably have an Aluminum frame and some sort of feet.

sorry im just writing down my thoughts as i see them..

Most of your materials seem quite flat, everything should has some sort of specular, especially Black, make sure you have specular on for your lights.

Plants, people, art, blinds at windows.. and maybe bevel the edges of your ceiling grid and give the material a tiny bit of gloss, just to add a little interest to the ceiling, maybe some little white sprinkler units..

    sorry im rambling..

The modeling looks good, but the lighting I think needs some more contrast, darker shadows, which could be done in photoshop. Right now it looks too evenly lit. The desk on the second image, the laptop practically disappears into it and the pen holder appears to be floating because of the lack of shadows. Maybe an AO pass could help.

        Thank you both!

rmejia - youre right, ill try to get some stronger shadows in there. I use reinhard colormapping with a low burn-value which evens out the image (to avoid a too bright cieling by the windows) but Ill take a look at this.

natty - no worries, your rambling actually makes perfect sense

agree with you on most points. I will definetly put some plants and stuff in there. Not sure about people, I think they often do more harm than good in interiors.

Most of the materials have some specular/glossy reflections etc. But I see what you mean. The desklamps for example look almost completely black. I think I might have killed those mats in photoshop, but I will take a look at the mat settings too.

Most objects have chamfered edges, but you cant really see that in this resolution. It looks better (softer) in full res.

Thanks again for your input! Ill post an update later today or maybe tomorrow.

Janosik - yup thats a kinnarps

              update!

Ive added some plants, remade the light fixtures, (not sure about the cat2 ones but theyll have to do for now), and have worked some more on some of the materials.

I tried to get some darker GI shadows using different colormapping settings, but found it hard to get a good GI contrast without completely blowing out the ceiling areas by the windows. So in the end I used pretty much the same colormappingsettings as in the old renders. No more time to work on this one, but Ill try to get some better contrast on my next interior project.

Even though the project is over I would still like some crits and comments!

              Thank you!

Definately looks better. Thing for me is being able to see the plants inside and out and noticing that the interior plants are much more saturated than the exterior ones. Also, maybe the laptops could do with some detail on them...are there any textures for the buttons ? Maybe something on the screen too..just an idea.
                Regards

                  Thanks!

Yup, the background should be more saturated. I changed this now and it looks better!

The laptop has no textures at all, its a free model i found on turbosquid. Would look alot better with some markings on the buttons. Ill see what I can do about that.
