  • Caustics, and fog and mesh light scene test

    Hello,

Was playing a bit with the caustics and fog a nd mesh light last night, here is my test...

i would have done higher res image but this one was already eating 7gigs of memory ))

as you can see, there is some very aparent noise in areas where for meets direct light and reflective caustics on transparent surfaces...

i would say its due to using progressive caustics mode and lower caustics subdivs (6000, the source is sun), the mesh lights do not generate caustics at all.

otherwise the setup was IRR (70,40)/BF(8,3), noise set to 0.001, Adaptive DMC 2/4

here is thi image (i followed cecofulli s tutorial)

    best regards
    Martin

no too long, the longest took the Caustics map in progressive mode....that was about 20 mins (3Ghz quad 8GB RAM)

        rednering another 45-60 mins approx...

        did not count it exactly

i wish i had more ram to try a hires though...but am a bit afraid it would crash

          Hey, looks quite cool!

May I ask why you use BF for 2nd bounce and not Lightcache?

hello, unsure really...i just did...i did not do it on purpose...i guess i wanted to see how fast it renders...the longest part of the render was the caustics computation anyway

              Ok.

*rubs hands* I've got the RAM, I've got the cores...and I would like to join the caustics club!

I just can't find that tutorial you are talking about. Any chance you can post the thread?
