        Brett,

Your textures look awesome. quite real.

You mention you use 3d coat. What is the work flow like as far as getting things in and out of max by way of 3d coat. I just recently saw the 3d coat website and thought it looked cool for what it did and how much it costs. Is it a stable and fast program?

        Thanks,

        V Miller

          Thanks Vance.

The workflow for 3DC is much like Bodypaint or Zbrush (except without the BP exchange plugin). Import/export out of Max as .obj and UV's can be done anywhere along the line. If I'm just intending to hand-paint all the maps then I often just let 3DC unwrap the model, but if I want to use displacement or minimize seams for some reason I tend to unwrap the model first. I use Unfold 3D for that, mainly.

The integration between 3DC and Photoshop is quite good so I move back and forth between those two quite a bit while in process.

          Pretty straightforward really.

As for speed: I find it a lot faster than Bodypaint, although I only have 3.0 so maybe newer versions are quicker. The wooden box that is in the corkscrew shot is textured with 8K maps I painted in 3Dc without major slowdown, and I do not have a kick-ass video card (8600GT) which is a big thing for working speed from what I understand. It's not without it's glitches, like any other program, but I find it quite stable and useful. It is pretty intuitive by comparison to the other options but like any other program it takes some flight time to get the hang of things and figure out where it's quirky. The support is good though, nearly Vlado-like, so any significant problems get fixed pretty fast AFAIK.

You honestly can't go wrong for the price anyway

Amazing stuff. I love the detail on the card and string. Did you use displacement on the card to create a layered card effect?

I love simple but detailed imagery like this..at first glace (from a distance it is simple and looks great), but you realise as you get more macro the details are amazing !

The string with the loose threads coming out really looks nice. Good details!
