  • Boy with fur costume

Had few hours time to play with Max 2010 Hair&Fur and Vray.
It could be better, but this was just a first test.

    Costume has 400000 hairs.
    Lc and ir for GI.
    Physical camera with Dof on.
    20-25 minutes to render.

good to see some hair/fur stuff done with 2010.

Turn dynamics on and make him jump up and down!

Hair and fur have been troubling me.
I tried rendering hair and fur and with 15000 hairs, I just get crashes all the time

since the hair is long hair I have had to use 70-100 segments but every time I try to render I get crash crash crash, usually due to memory contstraints.

Could you tell me what is the workflow to get hair rendering with so many hairs?

Raj, try rendering it with Dynamic memory that should help

Exactly what I thought too! Unfortunately I don't have any more time to play.
              Maybe some other day.

I tested it also with 800000 hairs, 24 segments. It rendered quite ok, but
              took about 7+ GB memory.
I think that reason for crashing is usually connected to base mesh. It shouldn't
              be too heavy.

edit: I thought that when rendering hair&fur, it's automaticly rendered with "dynamic memory".

Yep, this is the case - if you rendered it natively (through the "mr prim" mode) then the hair is always dynamic geometry - same as VRayFur.

                Best regards,
