  • Modern garden

    Hi,

    I have made these images for a landscape architect to be printed in a Danish magazine.

    I think they worked out pretty well but I would like to take the quality to a higher level to add more realism. So any suggestions are very welcome

    ... everything is fine, except...

    ... those dark, dark, dark windows. they really hurt. in the close up it just does not look natural to me.

    Some more details maybe ... colors are very cold ...

    OK, that´s just my point of view ... and i don´t want to be offensive !

        Windows don't really bother me, but they could go lighter I guess.

        I think it looks pretty good so far. Couple of tweaks that may help:

        I'd suggest a smaller bump/displacement on the water in the first image, and a bit more bump on the wall/wood/concrete materials to help bring out a bit more texture.

        Slightly vary up the greens in the foliage

        Add a bit of grunge (just a bit of darkening) around the edges of things/seams. It's a bit too perfect/clean for reality IMO.

        Nice work all around though.

          a photographer would probably use a graduated filter for the sky or a polarising filter to get a deep blue out of it.
          I'd also work a bit more on your water bump.

            I agree with simmsimaging, also, can you add some turbulence to the water around the little waterfalls? Lack of water movement is a big realiam killer when water is involved.

              Hi guys!

              Thanks for the feedback!

              @Tryharder
              On the reference fotos of the house the windows were pretty dark - however they show the inside of the windowframe so I should have modelled that.

              Wauw! The Master of Materials in my post Thanks Brett!

              The foliage are Evermotions except ivy and grass. I guess I have to find a way to make a random selection on the leaves to apply color variation.

              Adding grunge, would you say that's a post thing or more a material/ modelling thing?

              Water was a killer. I was trying to make the water in RealFlow but I ran into some scale issues and long calculation time so I had to fake it in the last hour with bump and displacement.

              @Werticus
              Would it not be great to have filter options in the VRayCam!
              I think the reason for why the sky is turning out a bit bright is that (as in real life) the camera is placed in a shadow area. I did try to crank up the enviroment map but it did'nt look right.

                For myself, I would address both in post. Much faster and easier to add a colour layer in Photoshop and vary up the tones in the vegetation, and adding the grunge could be done in part with a Dirtmap pass, but also pretty easy to just do in Photoshop by hand (at least for stills/single renders).

                I guess it depends on how many renders you are doing and where you like to spend your time

                  Yeah your right! I have to loose the idea that everything should be made up in 3dsmax

                  Although I love my Photoshop I have been trying to do as much as possible in 3dsmax because I am charching per image instead of per hour - and architects have a bad habit of changing camera position in last minutes.

                  Thanks Brett

                      Thanks voltron7!

                      I will give it a try. I also found this script "UniqueMaterialID" on CG-Source.com that I will try.
