More developing of our hi-res model pipeline. This is Zbrush/Max and a bit of 3D Coat for some texturing. No bump or displacement maps, all hi-res geometry out of Zbrush and loaded as a vrmesh. This method is working well, atlhough the next round of objects I think we'll combine normal/bump mapping with *almost* full res meshes. This will help shave off a few million polys and give us a better representation in the viewport and with RT (which does not support displacement at this time).

Total poly's in 3 main pieces was around 40 million but shaved that down to more like 20 prior to rendering. Post, and some detailing, done in Photoshop.

Renders were 5K each. Sharpening for this lo-res is a bit heavy handed so posted a link for a better/higher res well.

    Feedback always appreciated.

                Hello simmsimaging.

This is very nice. By now im trying to create an partly grinded amber material.
This seems to be similar but it is really hard. Can you give some detail of
                your material settings?

                  Thanks Steve

Kaffee.sturm: The material is not overly complex, but it is adjusted for each shot. The single piece shot has a uniform glossiness applied to the the reflections and refractions, and the 3 piece shot has maps for that (outer areas needed to be shinier). The maps are painted in Zbrush and 3dCoat, and are just white where I want clear refractions and mirror-like reflections, and shades of darker grey for "frosty" reflect/refractions.

It's really just a red fog colour with some roughness in the reflections and refractions, but much of that roughness also comes from the texture of the surface, which is sculpted detail. Anyway see attached image for what I did on one of them.

Great renders, to think I was afraid of trying to render a million poly object.
