    Hi all,
just thought i would share one recent project we ve done for a client in Prague. Couple more shots to be done yet, i will probably introduce more pronounced lighting cos this shot was meant to be done with partially overcast sky and the shadows are quite soft.

    C and Cs welcome!!!

BTW: the scene was lit with Peter Guthries HDRI....using clear 12:00 sky...i tried all sorts with it but could not make the shadows any darker...dunno why....althoug on the 3DOcean this sky is casting pretty nice shadows...

this is the sky i used

    any tips?
i will probably have to bring in direct vray sun cos i ve ran out of ideas )))

    Best Regards
    Martin

if you comare them to the height of the fence, which is 1.5 meters, they should be fine i guess

the guy with the dog, that one seems to be out of scale ...assuming the others to be correct

... did you use RPCs, image planes or are the people merged in photoshop ?

                and

as you said ... a little worm light (sun or direct) might make life easier

                  hello,
yep i merged the ppl in PS....
i deffinitely think i will acompany the Peters HDRIs with vraysun for the next project....
..strange though...one would think that clear sky HDRI with intense sun would create more dense shadows...tried to lower the HDRIs gamma but it produces weird lighting

a useful tip for getting people heights right in photoshop, make some 'people sticks' thin cubes that are an average person height. Then size the person smaller or higher depending the type of person being used.

Hi Martin, shadows do look a bit weak, maybe you can try a grey override render just to see where the shadows are first?

                          Hello Peter!
Thought so as it is a really bright day HDRI.

May if you could have a look at my settings???...i have followed your tutorial, also tried grey override, but could not pull out much form there...

using 1224 Clear Sky HDRI from your collection

                          max gamma/LUT 2.2
bitmap files input gamma 2.2/output 1.0
vray dome light multiplier @ 1
color mapping reinhard with burn @ 0.7
your skydome loaded as EXR (spherical mapping) with map output amount @ 1.5
                          vray camera setup f#6, shutter/ISO@200

maybe somethign wrong happens when the exr loads?
the backplates alone look quite dark and in sort of greyish colors when i load them in PS...

                          Thanks!

                          best regards

lol, thanks ))...theres not much that can be done with such boring buildings and setting ...could have made the wines a bit less saturated and more reflective, but hey...its a marketing image... clients like it when its colorfull )

was in touch with Peter Guthrie regarding the HDRI lighting and its seems this is the most i can get from it regarding the shadows without playing with the hdri gamma.
