You can also use a ATI workstation card for video and put the NVidia card (hopefully GTX 460 or higher) in the second PCI-e slot. The viewport speed is normal, no hitching or delay, and the RT stuff is calculated on the second card. At least in the beta that is how it worked.
Incidentally, the FX5800 is basically a GTX 275, with more video ram. Some of the GTX 260's are faster (and only $180 when new). Nvidia is sort of to blame for advertising their workstation cards as always being more powerful than the gaming/consumer level cards.
