    Thanks dejaVu

    Thanks dejaVu
this is what I define an help!!!!

thanks and congratulations for the state of art!!!

On my prevoius message I did mean the Skylight Portal in the vraylight!
But now I can see that u didn't used this options WHY?

Which kind of machine to render? (DUal cpu's or clasic one cpu)

Excuse If I ask another questions but I saw u and Goncalo use the subdivision value under direct computation under secondary bounces higher than 1.If I saw good in my little test it gives better results in the corners and around the contact surfaces about two object. Is it right or wrong?

    - What about the units of the last scene 1units = ?
(because the light parameters seems so high)
NOW I can see the units in the dimension of the vray lights

    1) What kind of retouch did u do in psp to get better result or did u use post render effects in max (contrast and brightness)?

Thanks for the quality of the image and the help
    bye

Thanx dejaVu for posting the settings, I'm merely a Vray Free user and I choose vray as the renderer someday I'll buy not only because it is fast an great but for people like you, Goncalo, da_elf, flipside, psy and all you members of this forum which happen to be the greatest forum to lear something new everyday.

Thanx goes to you all people who make this forum such a fantastic and friendly place to learn.

Cool, I was looking at the top one in the weekend newspaper. It's very hard to pick on newsprint, looks very real. Congrats!

@ rhino: Haven't seen it in the paper myself, but thanks. The quality of newprint does help to hide alot of things BTW seen your work for Mirvac...nice. Shame you use FR!! :P Have you tried VRay? If so, how does it compare?

          @ photonC: Welcome

@ pengo: I just find that the VRaylight give me more control than Skylight portal. The light parameters are high to compensate for the color mapping. Sometimes I want certain areas to be blown out or brighter for interest.

Just some basic colour correction and layer blending in PS.

@ GoncaloP: Thanks. Yes the thickness of the table does seem excessive. It was a timber table initially, and I forgot to adjust it when the client decided on glass. Well spotted...and yes, downlights are photometric.
Good to be around Was absent for a while due to too much work, but am back with a vengeance.

Evil FR hehe I just come to this forum for the Emoticons.

It's very hard to compare, quality is such a subjective thing.
In short. Vray, I'm always impressed by the displacement, AA, blurry reflections and how well all the features work together.
FR I love the GI, Advanced Material and the control. Control is the feature I couldn't live without, I think when you get to a point where you really want to create a "look" FR excels.

I'm waiting for a finished Stage1 - Vray1.1 before I make any real comparisons. Both renderers make exceptional imagery, I want both!

                type of spotlights used?

Hey there. Nice renderings. Do you use ies lights usually for interiors? How much time difference do you notice between these type of lights and normal lights?

It would be bether jamaisVu... something as good as that!
                    Just a simple quastion:
I see you don't use photon maps. How would it affect your work if do?

Its not really easy to work with photon map with a lot of reflections...

very nice renders. your interior work is better than the exterior (which is great). the floor in the livingroom image is stellar.

is it just me or is that dude in the first image totally getting a handful of ass?

Based on your setting it seems that you calculate irradiance map at the final resolution. IN your tutorial (osmosis) you calculate them at half or so and then use them in full size. What advantages/disadvanteges each method has?

Your metals ar really nice, even on the flat surfaces. Are they standard or vray materials?

You use direct computaton for secondary bouces. Is that because of materials? My understanding that photon map only works if all materials are vray or vray wrapped. Correct?

                          Thanks, great work.

                            Congratulations for your amaizing work...
I have a question for you (and not only):
What kind of material is on the walls??? because I have a interior scene.. and for the walls I applied a vray mtl with a white color but in the render it appears gray.. why?

Wow, this thread is still going. And so many questions. Ok so I'll tackle them one at a time and as best I can:

@ machu: Firstly, I set all white walls to receive and generate GI values greater than 1.0, eg Generate=1.5 Receive=1.2. The rest depends on your lights.

@ radimek: Calculate at half and use at full res if you are in a hurry and can't afford the time hit. However, if you can spare the time, calculate at the final res to retain detail in your IR map and a cleaner solution without high Interp settings (blurring).

Metals are all VRay materials. The "trick" to metals is getting the reflection right.

I tend not to use photon maps because I seem to get better results with the Direct comp method. Have tried PM a few times but haven't been able to see any benefits, so I've stuck with what I'm comfortable with. Also the fact that PM pnlu works with VRay Materials is limiting in certain situations.

@ asango: agree...am more comfortable with interiors than exteriors...also enjoy them more too...

And...yes he is...mind you, that handful just cost him dearly he has to buy the apartment now

@ adriano.ol: not sure what jamaisVu means?...re PM see above.

                              Thanks again guys
