the lighting in those images is heart-breaking and masterfully balanced.

The only way that i get something like that (image quality) is using "universal settings"...actually after I saw your renderings I did a test again ...like you said 5 hr renderings is for clients that don't have rush....my clients in some cases, they go to present the project to the city without anything and they are expecting that I send all the stuff 2-4 hours before the meeting...no time at all, it's sad because you always has the sensations that you could do it better (super tight schedules don't help much...I'm almost work with another set of keyboard & mouse in my feet.)

Thanks a lot, guys. Yes, universal settings are a sure bet. But you can often achieve the same results faster. The key, I think, is to try to spend a little bit of time rendering a draft at lowish settings and isolate what is causing the noise. It could be a specific material, a specific light, it could be the light cache or the noise threshold or the AA settings. Rendering once without GI can help you narrow down the problems. Once you've fixed those specific things with higher subdivs or by tweaking settings, you can vastly improve your image without the rendering time costs of the universal settings, which bumps up every single setting across the board at once.

Must be the limit of what's achievable in terms of realism! Top of the line!

Could you explain how you gave that touch of chromatic aberration. Have you used any special plugin?
