After a spectacular crash landing on a foreign planet, Jurgen battles his way in Indiana Jones style through impressive jungle locations, faces enormous ants, dangerous fire caves, an army of knights and finally reaches a table mountain where a mysterious beauty is trapped on the top by a … but we won’t tell you here. Soul Pix rocks

Great work, amazing for such a small amount of time.

How is your team split up? For instance do you have just one artist working on those great looking volumetrics?

            thanx

parts of jurgen,+ parts of the girl and the complete space glider at the end was there already, everything else was made completly new.
5 people have workin on it.

my job is, beside directing and going crazy about the deadline, all the vray related stuff; lights+shading, volumetrics, particle fx, renderfarm madness and so on...

soon we make part 2 of this story with (hopefully) much more time...

joe, nice stuff, you are bookmarked

            have a nice day

                  Great work Frank !
Sometime the character animation are fantastic, how much is mocap ?
My studio does only animation (spots and clips) ... and I planned to use VRay in it,
is it a production nightmare or not ?

ca. 90% are mocap files, the rest is keyframe/motion mixer stuff.
some of the "stuntmen" animations was made with "endorphin" a great new animtion tool - just for stunts this is REAL fun playin with it.
                    better than many games...

generell its a good idea to use vray for animation, we use vray for animations since the first time vray was available, after some problems they all have (flickering bla bla) its really cool and not a nightmare. we make now every job with vray. but if u want high quality u need some computers

for this video 16 cpus with p4 2-3,02mhz are rendering 3 weeks nonstop.
its important to get fast renderable scenes so u can tweak the settings early and not in the last week....

Yes it didn't seemed to be all character studio's keyframing

After some researching ... its seems VRay is the best (=fastest) for GI animation.
I did the last clip with Max' skytracer ... that's a nightmare !
... and the visual were not so complicated :

And we were 2 for 3 weeks !
We used reactor a lot ... and endorphin seems to do the same... with bipeds !
I'll have a closer look at it, thanx for the link !

yeah, the skytracer is nightmare, even mr + finalrender. we tried to make one shot with skytracer, no chance.

                            if u male vray anims:
if its not possible to render all in one pass we save the irradiance maps, render the enviroment and re render the chars/props and put it together in after fx. in many cases the best way, i think

                              That's the way for optimisation...
