  • BMW Z3 M Roadster : Reloaded

Okay. Corey asked me, within big user gallery, to make some fine render. So I decided (enormous thanks goes to my friend Peter (nicknamed Pudlik) for taste to work) to blow away dust from my model which I made 3 years ago, when I was 13 (I am turning 16 on 23rd Sep.) Decent materials, loads of ICQ history with Peter and many experiments, but I am satisfied with result. First, check render I've done in Flamingo 3 yrs ago, and then todays one done in V-Ray. Now I am rendering 3k wide picture for Corey's gallery, I hope he will be happy with my stuff.

    Cool. Looks great.

    suggestions:
    - most cars have light colored windows.
    - use stronger mesh settings, I see much ploygon artefacts
    - a version with metalic car paint could be nice (f.ex. silver)

      Very Nice,
it's a little bit unfair to flamingo because there was not an hdri in the background... and now you are better in rendering anyway 2003 vs 2006.

The time is really little for a car with that much details. What was the machine and what was your settings for achieving this speed ?? Athlon64 3200+ 2.0 GhZ , 1GB in 2 x 512MB RAM modules in dualchannel ? There is still a little bit of noice but I find it pretty nice this way. For this timescale, it's damn good !

Jean-Paul: Yes, there was no HDRi with flamingo, anyway, when I switch HDRi off in VRay, it looks much better than Flamingo render, it is just about whole quality of renderer

What about machine - yes, as in my signature. And it could be rendered in shorter time, because much of refractions on headlights make it longer. As you can see on this picture, "waved" glasses covering whole reflector (chrome inside too) are modeled so.... thats it

Micha: Most cars have colored windows, but not this one. I am just keeping original style And what about mesh settings - okay, I will add there some tens thousands of polygons, I hope that VRay will not crash

I hope so. So far it seems like I will need more RAM. 100MB for new meshes left. I am not sure if I will use new meshes. God, 30MB left. Anyway, lot of artifacts are because of crapy model

add: Meshed guys! Going to start render for all the night to make something serious for Corey :P

Meshing: set all mesh options 0 and use the "distance edge to surface" option only. If your model is in mm units, than try 0.1 first. If the mesh count is not to high (you can see the faces count (poly count) in the Vray progress window), than use a stronger setting.

                    Hej,
I think your brake disks are to blank and the car paint is to mat. I?m missing some higlights. (Might be the light too)
Specially the crome parts make that I don?t be cheated.
There are still some poly artefacts.
The model is very nice. How long time tooke it to make it?

Brake discs are in chrome, missing material only brake blocks (in default grey). I wanted to put there red mate material, but that red (over fact it was light red, nothing heavy) was too reflexed in rims, so I decided to screw that shit and keep no-mat look.

As long as I will work with polygons in Rhino, there will be these artifacts. I don't care Fine, now true. I care about it, but I don't plan to make another render with all fixed artifacts, I am settled with this. Maybe I am stupid, but, that's reality

Believe or not, this model is not good. Render and carpaint smooth loads of bugs and inaccuracies on the model. I made it 3 years ago, when I was 13, so that is only thing I'm telling to myself as reason "How could I make this crap?"... It took to make about 25 hours of whole "core", and next 15 hours of making details, fixes and repairs.
