    Hi !
if you want to be more realistic, you may map differently the 4 legs of your stool. Now we see it's the same...

          Good.
The middle spindle looks like fixed - the hole around the spindle in the plates is not visible.

            Great works!
So, i'm interested on the "black bean" rendering: have you used the same enviroment/ligths as for the other renderings? Ligths seams not stills from the hdr image (app_balkon_cloudy?)...

Hi Ferro, I just use the hdr for the reflection. I use a simple white spot on a black background for the light. (Applied using mirrorball.)

I've been trying to get brushed metal to work on cutlery for a while. The new render is the best I have been able to acheive for ages.

Still no luck - I must be slow after the weekend!!

I'm assuming that your placing the jpeg in the 'texture editor' of the Environment GI settings??

                            1. Import image as 'bmp'
                            2. use UVW as environment - mapping 'mirror ball'
                            3. GI main multiplyer setting '1' ?

All I get is a 'black out' render??

                            Any thoughts?

I've got a hdr map as my background 'reflection' map. (set as 'mirror ball')

edit: just resolved it My 'white spot' was far too small!! - I think time to go back to bed?!

The best way to sort it out, is to place a chrome sphere in your drawing. Then put the jpg into your background map to see where the white circle is. Its a bit of a pain to work out which way is up in Vray! Make sure tile is off too. I usually use a multiplier of about 2 in the bitmap window.

                                Re: Gavin's gallery

hello gavin, i like your brushed metal settings, could you please picture out what material settings approach you use? brushed metal texture or is it possible with some other tick? on which material layer would you apply the texture: bump, diffuse, reflection? what is the best workaround to get nice light brushed aluminium or a strongly brushed steel (like your cutlery)?...
                                thx
