Hi,
this is my first vray render (i've used flamingo and imagestudio before)
the product you see is a part of my graduation project. I graduated as a product designer in Antwerp (Belgium) this summer. Its a remote/portable device for digital television.
since I'm still learning on how te use the program, every comment is welcome.

my first vray render

Hi Ward,

first I try to make that your image is direct show here with , but it dosn't work. Do somebody know why?

Do you have seen tutorial F? If yes, than the next step could be to use a HDRI instead the homogen white lighting. For example the classical free "kitchen" env do a good job or the "building".

(I'm not sure how good the different formats can be used, because I convert my probes to spherical panormas with HDRShop)

Wouter has created some HDRIs with example renderings:

my first vray render

Hi Micha,
thanks for your reply.
I used a normal jpeg picture for global illumination and an extra rectangular light for white highlites. Do you think it will be beter if i leave the rectangular light out and use only the global illumination?
I never knew where to find hdr-maps, but now you gave me the link, i will certainly try one! What's exactly the difference with a normal picture? and is there a way to create or adjust your own hdr, for example to create a different atmosphere?

Best you use google and you will find more free HDRIs ... and infos. Short: HighDynamicRangeImages include a much higher contrast. This images can be used as light source. Standard images are LowDRI and can be used too, but the light contrast is very limited.

HDRShop is a tool to manipulate HDRIs and you can find infos here:
http://gl.ict.usc.edu/HDRShop/

Stay to use the rectangular light, it give you extra control. But I would increase the intensity so that it show more effect.
Your env maps looks very blury. A more detailed map could give more attraction.

my first vray render

Hi Micha,
I've tried the HDRI and the rendering is indeed a lot 'deeper' than the original one. I'm just gonna try to get an image on the LCD and then I'm realy pleased with the result, but any comment is still welcome...
greetings,
Ward
