  • real project - my first interior - update

Here is my first attempt with an interior. I started with the settings in the 'Basic Interior settings' tutorial. I did paste in the garden view through the window.
I know that a number of people post threads about the 'blotchy' apperance, and now I've experienced it too, but I am unsure of the settings to eliminate (or at least reduce) it.
If anyone can help, please let me know what setting to adjust (and where to locate that setting - there are so many!)
    Thanks

Re: real project - my first interior - blotchy

Its OK I changed the HSph subdivs (whatever that is!) to 100 and samples to 50 (in the irradiance map options) and thats certainly done the trick. So now I'm pleased.

Anybody got any advise about spotlights, I don't want to just throw light around which the omni directional light seems to do. I tried emissive material but it produced such a 'spotty' effect the room looked like a night club!

Just put an vray rectangular light there and make it invisible... it wont show that it is acually square. And the set a thingy that is selfiluminated to simulate the actual light source that don't really emit. That is how i did my spots in my project.

Great work! I really like the light settings now, warm nice colors. But think about the exposure... The outdoor is not that clear in real life. It has to be more brighter - once again check how i did. You make the dession which is better

          Thanks for the comments folks.

Fluke, I tried your lighting suggestion. I buried a rectangular light in a cylinder to create the downlights and in a lamp shade for the table lamp. I made the lights slightly yellow, except for the end downlighter (by mistake), and it is interesting to see the difference in lighting colour. As for the lighting design; I tried it without the table lamp, and it looked rather drab and boring. The table lamp should probably be on a table, but the client has only just moved in and hasn't got one yet (!).
It is a bit 'noisey', but then the resolution is low and it did only take 15mins.

Re: real project - my first interior - blotchy

I thought I would try a re-render of this scene with the latest relaease (1.0) to flush out the problems. It has taken a lot of tweaking of the settings, but now I have it close to the original version, albeit with richer colours (truer colours?).
I used the skylight environment, with the 'physical camera' so that I could get soft shadows. It seems to work ok.

Re: real project - my first interior - blotchy

I'm much more convinced by the most recent version. Not the the first was a bad attempt, but the new one has much more depth to it. In the first there isn't as much of the range between the brights and the darks. Also the lighting on the latest looks much more like its only the sunlight. I feel using the physical camera for interiors is really a must. It allows for much easier adjustment of the lighting values simply by changing the exposure, so I am glad to see that you are using it. Great work

This was my first interior, and having picked up so many tips and advise over the last few months from you guys I thought I would re-visit the project and give it another go, so here is my update. C and C very welcome.

                  david,

that first image was actually my source of inspiration. i can still remember that beta and the big asgvis watermark on the top left. and now just amazing to see how you develop your skills.

David, I have a question about your interior design.
your sun beams is really softer than mine in "creating a desk lamp" and also the lights looka more realistic.
                    did you uses HDRI?
when I was trying to encrease the muutltiplier of recangular light, it seemed so artificial :-\ but yours looks relistic . did you use white color for your rectangular light?

                    thank you in advance

Re: real project - my first interior - update

fatemeh, wow, it seems like so long ago that I did this. :-[
Anyway I went in and opened it up to check out the model. I didn't use any 'artificial' lights. This is lit solely with the sun shining into an enclosed space. The sun comes in through the window and down the stairs from a roof window. Some light is bounced off the 'garden' outside - hence the slight green tinge to the ceilng.
The soft shadows - set the sun size multiplier to 5.
I just rendered it again in SR1 and it came out ok (hint, hint, to the SR1 waverers!)

                      Good Luck

                      David
