I have been trying to improve this image. I don't seem to be able to get it quite right. Maybe its the very wide angle lens, but I'm not sure. Maybe I've been looking at it for too long!
Anyway, it is a low cost office entrance re-furb. The only ps work is the insert of the space beyond the doors. I used a vray light in the doorway to get some reflections off the floor, and there are several invisible rect lights to provide the spots.

I would really welcome some crits on this one as I think it could be a whole lot better!

    Dear David,
i like the design, and the pavement, but i think also that the sun is burning nearby the desk, not god for a good render don't you think?
The tree looks false, maybe toot much

      Nice clean cut design David.

Some minor adjustments and i'm sure you will make this a magnificent piece.

      1. Is the blue seat a gang chair? Plastic or fabric? It doesn't show it's true material.
      2. I think it would be better if you use hanging horizontal lights above the desk to make it more office like.

      Regards,

        Re: office reception

        Thanks for the help folks.

I have tweaked the model and used Mado's render settings (thanks Mado, they are very good).
I have toned down the sunlight to prevent the burn and projected it into the space a little more. I also changed the lighting over the desk. This was something I considered when designing it and I agree it does give the reception a bit more presence. I trimmed the plant out of the scene as it wasn't adding anything to it.
Mado's settings have greatly improved the quality of the render. It has eliminated much of the noise and actually reduced the render time (it was in excess of 4hrs and its now down to 2-27)

          Re: office reception

David, definitely better than the previous one. But, I think I like the all wood desk before and colored white wall behind it instead of gray. Looks like the Mado settings has done wonders for you. Good job.

          Regards,

            Re: office reception

definitely the second image is much better. i was actually looking it for long time. i cant really find what was missing. the rendering is actually good, the sunlight coming from the window is nice, but i was really thinking what was missing.
i look at the composition and browse my eyes on the elements inside this room and i think i found something to improve the composition. its my guess but i hope it will help.

as you can see the hoizon line is in the middle of the picture, thus the ceiing part and the floor part competes for attention. also i think the FOV of the camera created some distortion. perhaps you can lower a bit the height of the camera and adjust the fov. again these are suggestions.

              Re: office reception

Thanks for the thoughts folks. I will try a lower viewpoint and see what it looks like. I think I have too much unecessary floor and ceiling and nothing in the foreground. Not sure how I can fix this but will give it a go.

I have to see the client with this today so I will post the final.

              Thanks for all your help

Here is the final. I adjusted the viewpoint, which I think is a bit better.
                (The client liked it)
