      Re: Going places...

      The subsmooth plugin costs 22 dollar. You can get it at smustard.com.
      The other plugins I mentioned can be found free at Sketchucation forum.

                  Re: Going places...

                  Thank you guys You're too kind.

                  @Nomer, I am trying to polycrunch the trees so I can still render an animation out.
                  I am polyreducing them to the point they have leaves floating in thin air ...hey, but I am not quitting, no sir .

                  @Maarten,
                  There are several good commercial tree packages on the market: Onyx Tree,Evermotion, Dosh, etc...
                  Xfrog is a good one as well, but be aware the trees have lots and lots of polygons.
                  Sometimes, when your model itself is already quite elaborate, using 2D billboards is the better choice for vegetation at a distance imo.

                  Sometimes it is even better to render without trees and photoshop them on the image, so they are easily changed when a client needs them replaced.

                      I second that. With billboard trees I could do a very nice cluster of trees in the background where I only used a few 3D trees for the foreground. You can't tell the difference.
                      Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

                        Thnx for replying biebel en co!

                        I didn't search the internet so far for 2d/3d tree collections but i guess you have to pay for all of them isn't it? Or are there free or studentpackages?

                                Re: Going places...

                                You will need auxiliary software like Blender, deep Exploration to shrink the polycount of those trees first, and save them as .obj or .3ds.

                                Without the poly reduction, Sketchup will crash without exception.

                                When you buy Xfrog, you will get an app called Xtune, which also can reduce the filesize of each tree.
