    Work In Progress
Something I got from a magazine to help me with testing some ideas.
There are a few things I am going to change and fix but this is how it is at this point. The chairs are slightly different as I am testing different designs and they are not quite complete (need to fix the arms and seat backs) and I need to model some more brick-a-brack (I guess thats how it is spelled).

I would like to thank all those who have given me pointers and answered my dumb questions (more than once in some cases)

It might be a bit before I can get to the changes since this is a "for fun" project, working on the kitchen now which will take somewhere around forever to finish.

Any tips for speed up or clean up (some artifacts in there) would be
    much appreciated.

                    Very nice!

Not really heavy comment, but two small things:

-the wood logs seem so straight
-how can it be that those objects above the fire place can be placed vertically when the surface is curved.

But your image has a nice atmosphere/mood.
Looking forward to the other images/views.

                    greetz,
                    Leon

I think that the fireplace has this curved frame and behind it it is flat. This is sometimes used in building to make a space to hide those thinghs that are not very "vivid", such as matches, fireplace tools and such.....but of course in this case it is just my guess....

I agree tha the logs should have some bump or displace....

also tha carped could use a little bump....

However, I am jealous....the image has fantastic mood and is perfectly lit...

Just wonder how it would look if it was lit only with one lamp and the fire from fireplace.......I am sure it would rock

                        Well.

two things. first the image is realy good.
But the rendertime could be reduced much, i think if you would use photonmapping for the secound bounces. my testings have shown, it can reduce rendertimes (especially for such interiors ) for about two ore three times !!!!
of cours for this you have to use only the vray mat. and vray lights. you can find an example from pater here in the image section where you can find a very good example of an interior with photonmapping.

secound, i dont like the architecture. (well ive studied architecture), and it is most time very difficult to talk about an image, if you dont know the concepts behind. this is the reason why everyone most time only talks about the technical aspect of these immages, and not about the whole concept. So why such a room. How does it fit to your oppinion of a good room.

At last me for myselve would be glad to have such a room. still if it is not my architecture.

The only things I would put my finger on are the logs in the fireplace, they definately need some more irregular shape and "woody" texture (like they were split down the middle or into 3-4 pieces).
The other thing would be the lamp shades need to be translucent. Right now they look like there wouldn't be a light bulb turned on inside of them. Other than that Id say it was a smashing image.
                          Signing out,
                          Christian

Thanks for the words, coming from here they mean alot.

                            UBIKmh:
The mantel is flat behind the curve.
                            maxer/UBIKmh:
Not done with the logs yet, need a good birch material as in the photo I am taking this from.
The carpet is a bit of pain, I cant seem to find a good enough image
for a map. The map you see if from the web so it is a low res crappy
JPG compressed to the eye balls. So, I will get the displacement on there
and hopefully that will help it out.
tom schuelke: Like the architecture or no, this house was designed and built in the 1920's in Texas, USA so it might explain the shape and design.
I am not an architect, this was merely a light study, but I do agree that many times it can be the design of the house/room that really makes the shot.
                            trixian
I would like to make the lamp shades translucent but they are not in the photo, but I think I would like to give it a try anyway, might look odd since it appears in the photo that the shade is too dense combined with the ambient light for any glow to be seen.

Thanks again guys. I will try to get it finished and repost soon.
