very nice!!!! I really like the mood it conveys.
the only comment is, like others, on the logs in the fireplace - mostly the texture could be reworked a little.
ONE THING: the render time seems quite high for that image size and what I've see vray do. Is that because of the vray area lights/shadows tend to take longer to render???.....just courious on what you think bumped up your render time ...or maybe whether that is a usual render time for a high res interior w/ vray.

    thanks and keep it up!!

    Paul.

        Cocolas:
Rendered on an AMD 2200XP w/512Mb RAM
The time is about what I expected for this shot, wish it was quicker.
I am not using photon mapping mainly because it has not been my focus.
I am planning to try it out here and see what difference it makes.

Also every object in the scene is smoothed or filleted, including the
baseboard, crown molding, walls, window frames and everthing else.
The object are lofts, lathes, poly meshes and the chairs are made with
spline cages w/surface modifier, the threads are renderable splines.

Now the time with this one will not compare with the kitchen I am doing,
        lots-o-stainless steel.

          Hallo Dman3D

there´s a good starting point for Photonmapping if you are interested. I´am not sure it works perfect in your scene but try this tutorial from Vlado first.

          http://www.vrayrender.com/stuff/PMapTutorial/

much fun with it (you´ll see it will make those fery fast Renderer even much much faster it is impressiv)

Will give it a try when I get what I have hammered out (displacement, logs, carpet and so on)

            Thanks

              looks beautiful!!!

only crit is that there is a little patch of orange in the bottom right corner that looks out of place

The orange patch is sunlight. It does look a bit artificial but I am not entirely sure what to do with it. I will try changing the angle of the sun
so the light and color in the room stay but the spot on the floor moves
                back a bit.

                  Nice work Dman...warm, cosy mood.
As already been pointed out, modeling lighting and textures are excellent.

My only comment is that there seems to be a lack of specular highlights.
I would imagine that there would be some especially on the picture frame and some subtle highlights on the top of the leather chairs from the windows. Same with the polished timber floors.
Try changing the VRay Environment to white and upping the multiplier to a high value like 10.

This a very common problem with VRay Material due to the absence of fake specular and glossiness parameters that exist in the Standard Material.

Wonderful image! The chairs are a beautiful job of modeling and texturing! Nice details in the whole room. How many polys in the scene.

The logs, as mentioned need a liitle work and should there not be two beams of light coming in from the windows rather than just the one that is hitting the floor on the right. As for rugs, check out FloorShop.com, they have a huge selection of high quality rug images.

Again, very nice piece! I like the architecture myself, it reminds me of my grandmothers home in Houston.

                      dejaVu:
Will give the specular trick a try, good you mention it as I have never
been able to figure that out. Most of the time I try to mix VRay and
Max mats in the scene to try to fool the eye.

                      TRGraphics:
Will hit the floorshop.com to find a better rug, thanks.
As for the light on the floor, the sun is coming from the right
and there are two windows, the one closer to the camera is
just out of range to show up. I think I will scoot the sun over
a bit to hide the second one as well since it seems to be a disctraction.
There are 314,048 polys in the scene. If I tune the objects I could
probably cut it down about 50k polys.

Wow, floorshop.com has tons of rugs. Most seem about the size I have,
I will see what I can do with some displacement.

Be tomorrow or the day after before I can get it rendered and posted.
Got two other projects I am trying to work on.

Ok here is an update, got the logs fixed and the specular highlites
but I am not sure about the rug yet, this was the largest interesting
looking one I found. Probably change it out for something a bit more
                          complimentary when I find it.

The image is much better! Very nice!

Are you using Vray lights stored in the irradiaance map? If so, with the saved irradiance map, uncked that option and render again

                            Just a thought

No irmap store GoncaloP, just push render.
Any tips for animating? Just thinking of a left to right pan.
Glad you like the rug, the jury was still out for me.

I still need to clean up the silver and brass, a little artifacted and need
to move the splotch of sun on the floor at the right side out of the shot.
Still need to make the birch material on the logs a bit more white and
get the mapping cleaned up. I think the designer in the magazine I took
this from was using birch for the look not as actual 1/4 cut firewood.

                                Thanks for the tips!
