Thank you all for the comments:

could i see i hidden line screen shot?
    Non-believer! : ;D

It's really the common 'texture projecting' method...but since you ask for it here's the tut.

I used a premade displacement map but it can be done in Photoshop as well.
Unike a bump map, you don't want too much detail in the stone itself
. Only the parts that really need to be displaced (=the seams between the rocks). The rock itself should be mono color grey or white.

You need to take good care of the edges on that seam. It helps to use 'gaussian blur' just a little to get it smooth. Also using levels (bring black and white closer to the curve), the 'photocopy' effect and also the 'treshold' option (image menu>adjustment>treshold) can be handy to use.

So when you are using the stone texture you aply the disp. map to the sketchup moddel and than link it.. and aply the diffuse map?

Get out of here! We struggle for a decent carpet displacement, and you came with this.... are you a wizard or what????

haha not a non believer, just that that texture doesnt look projected, but after some experimenting i found i could achieve a similar effect

              not a ney-sayer... more of a how-sayer

cheers and again very nice renders

                Re: Texturing organics: material tests

                Thanks,

I uploaded the model to 3DWarehouse:
                http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehou...83c414ed3a6752
The texturing method I used is view dependant, so if someone knows how to texture it so it would look great from all angles, please share

                  Re: Texturing organics: material tests

I made some tests on the material studio software. Everything works fine. But when i try to apply on the model nothing happens. I guess the only way is making linked materials. :'(

"I am not following. What exactly is not working?"

                      bumps and displacement.

                      The same happened here: http://asgvis.com/index.php?option=c...0&topic=4344.0

They work on preview (or in material studio) but they don´t on the model.

                                Re: Texturing organics: material tests

                                Cheer up Kgoku .

Actually, displacement asks for 'good' geometry to be applied to.
And 'good' geometry is a mesh consisting of triangles.
When using displacement, it will always subdivide your geometry, so you should start with geometry that will subdivide well (=triangulated meshes).

Sometimes, displacement fails to work when applied on a perfect horizontal plane.
But from the moment you triangulate it and rotate it just a bit, it can suddenly start working.
As a matter of fact, it works more easily on a good triangulated organic shape than on a simple quad face....

At least that is my observation.

@DesignerFuture: Wow you have a nice collection of displacement maps at your disposal. Looking good.
