Hi, i don't like the first one, i think the render is out of contrast, and very low poly. but the second one, i'm very excited with that, actully i'd like to use it on, one of my scens hehehe. Only one thing, the DOF seams to be in a very low subdivision.
Congratulation.
10x 4 the comment ...well the renders are not taken into acount 4 this contest so i did
some fast ones... maybe i shouldn't have posted them yet....
i'll work on them a bit and make them presentable
10x again
DW : what u see in the lens is the reflection of the hdri i used - and i didn't model the lamp in SU - for complex object modeling i use different programs. I model in SU architectural models and simpler objects
Re: modern lamp - improved blur - three more lamps
10x DW
on the esprit lamp i used a modified plastic material with 0.8 reflection
and for the light...i assume u are asking about the light inside the lamp and not the environment, i used a rectangle light...i never used an omni light :P
Re: modern lamp - improved blur - three more lamps
Ok very impressive. I like it a lot. I am also doing a school project on... designer lights.
And I am trying to create an material tat looks the same as the 3de (Jello) lamp. Ware you can see the light inside is shining true the material a bit..
Could you tell us something about ho you manage to do that..

Re: modern lamp - improved blur - three more lamps
i did that render in a hurry so i didn't have time to tweak materials....the light is all done in postproduction in cs3...i would've used (if i had time) a SSS material for the white part (a color modification of the "wax" material and the orange cover, a low reflection colored glass) - that's how u could get that effect...i chose the fast way and did it by hand :P oops
