  • stainless steel material setup___???

    Hello to everyone,
Do you guys have any idea how to set up a nice looking stainless steel material with glossy reflections?

I am especially interested in these settings...
Type of a reflection falloff map,
reflection interpolation settings + subdivisions for reflection

On the image below you can see my try...I am NOT satisfied with the look of it especially when you consider my setting, that are:
    Falloff.....paralel/perpendicular (camera view)
    Diffuse (29,29,29)
    Reflection (105,105,105)
    Reflection subdivs 30
    Glossines 0.75
    Ward shading
    Reflect interpolation -3,0
Overall aliasing - Adaptive subdivision 0,3 (I cannot get sharp results on the far objects....)

    Any ideas____?????
    Thanks

I believe there was a good tip here
    http://www.chaoticdimension.com/foru...pic.php?t=3577

Try a search of the forum for stainless steel, probably get a few hits.
Looking good, what kind of color mapping? A little richer color would
    punch it up a notch.

IMHO, you shoud try with out the fallof map.
Just plain glossy reflection, because your surfaces are not courved.

In fact i think the fallof is making the surfaces that are almost perpendicular to the camera to not have reflections.

      I like the image BTW

I tried without falloff and it just does not look real...I am NOT satisfied with the edges of the railing though....is that beacause the lack of fill light? Cos right now it is just GI skylight only

I use HSV color mapping....it has the best results. I would love to get richer colors, but Ill probably do it as a post processing....the textures keep the colors as it is in the real world, so Ill just give it a little tweak afterwards...

        Thanks for the tips though.....
