    Jujubee:

I use none (I tried some falloff but it did not quite make the result, the maps are present in the slots but they are unchecked)

....and the scene is just lit by a skylight.

Hi mzmeskal, and congrats i like the pics very much... but looking at the settings, i was asking myself "what map did he use in the reflection map slot ?"

perhaps u could answer me and telle me if u used some kind of procedural reflection map ?

        Thanks

          Hi

I´ve tried to use your setting in my project and it turn out completly black!

Here is a a render of the scene, the black areas where supose to be glass.

          Anyone can explain why?

And Martin, is your scene only illuminated with skylight?

          Guilherme

In mine was the same result (black areas where supose to be glass)...
When I turn translucent off it goes better...
              But not so good

I think thats because there is no light in the back nor direct light, i´ve
done some tests, and i twiked a little the glass mat, and i got a great
glass, but just with direct light on in, otherwise it will be black.

Guilherme- I was having the same exact issues as you were with the glass and translucency on when I attempted to create a lampshade. A couple things that you may want to take a look at are your max units- try doing this to scale. Secondly, fiddle with the thickness of your object. Thirdly, change the fog multiplier.

I believe my problem was that once I scaled the scene to realistic dimensions and put the fog multiplier to .01 from .00, everything worked. Some people say that it works at .00- perhaps it's a bug for some versions because it didn't work for me. Please let me know how that works out.

I guess it somewhere between the fog multiplier and material thickness, cos here is the test where everything works....

the glass plates have 0.2mm thickness

than I tried to render a table where the glass had 0.5mm and I was not satisfied with the result at all...Ill have to tweak and tune the settings when I have some time....then Ill post the mat again...

Thanks jujubee for the tips, I did some tests on a scene similar to the
mzmeskal but I had to change some parameters in his glass mat for it to
give a similar look, but still not as good as his! Maybe is the light, but
thanks anyway for the mat mzmeskal, it was a big help.

Here are some tests I did.

On this second one, the glass on the left door is the one I changed, and the door on the right is using the mzmeskal as he posted.

                        Hi
I downloaded and tried the frosted glass material on a scene and
I got a black material... in both the material editor preview window and
                        in the VFB.
here are my settings for the frosted glass (i removed the reflections)

and here is the result i get:

                        thanks!

I guess there really must be some direct light behind th eglass surface. Try to put a relly weak point light inside the cases.

I also made another frostglass mat that does not use translucency, and it works better in such cases....

                            Try this:
                            Diffuse almost black
                            Glossines 1.0
                            Subdivs 50

                            Refract almost white
                            Glossiness 0.6
                            Subdivs 50
                            IOR 1.517
                            Use interpolation (-3, 0) 50 samples, tresholds 0.2, 0.2
                            Affect shadows

                              hey thanks for the tip...
i haven't test it yet but i will give it a try

i kind of solved the problem using almost the same settings from the material posted here (frostglass)

the problem right now is the flickering inside the glass material
                              my settings are:

and i posted the animation here:
                              http://www.minimum.com.mx/tests/arenas_anim.mov

                              thanks!

                                but how many lights are?

the lights as they are disposed in the scene?

                                thanks
