Re: Personal projects (Sci-fi and Fantasy)

      Hi guys,

Thanks everyone for all the comments.

@ Fernando: Thank you for all the materials and tutorials. They are very useful.

@ ferrosoa: Thanks, glad you like my models.

@ Dave: I use Sketchup for modeling. I have been using Sketchup right after it came out in 2000 or so, when I was in architecture.
The secret is practice, practice and practice. If you have some specific questions, feel free to email me and I will certainly give you some advice on modeling with Sketchup.

Here are some of my first models done about 8 or 9 years ago. It's okay, you can laugh at them. That what I do when I look at my old stuff. LOL

@ Devin: Yes, Sir, you can model like this with Sketchup. I could not believe that I could do something like that either.

@ Gallystops: Now you can laugh at my older models above. LOL You think the models of the sci-fi vehicles or the fantasy interiors must have taken me like 10-15 minutes?...nah, that's too fast...It took me an hour!...j/k...well, it took me about 10 days to finish the 4 vehicles working a few hours at night, whenever I did not have to soothe my little princess back to sleep. The interior of the temple took me days and I am still working on it a little bit at night.

@ Teofilo: You are right, my renders need more work. Although I might consider myself expert at Sketchup modeling, I am still a beginner with Vray. And this what this forum is for, to learn some rendering tips from awesome professionals like you, Fernando, Nomer, 40th, etc. (fill in your name here).

Honestly, I just put the lights in the scene, change their colors and intensity and click render. That's all. I wish I could learn more about Vray and how to enhance my renders. So I am all ears if anyone have time and would like to give me some tips on rendering with Vray.

@ gargon: Glad you like them. Thank you.

@ 40th: For the fist image, I used some "Blur" in photoshop.

@ alrami: haha, thanks for your comment.

@ proseduction: I made the curves with......(sounds of drums)....the curve tool in Sketchup. and some help of plugins.

@ nomeradona: Thanks, Nomer. Are you still in Vietnam? Hope all is well.

@ andeciuala: you have some pretty nice renders in your website. Love the images, but can't read. No se habla espanol.

@ Sanjeev: I don't have any videos of WIP, but feel free to email if you have any question about modeling with Sketchup. I will be glad to help. To learn more and get inspired by Sketchup artists, visit the gallery of Sketchucation forum http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewforum.php?f=81.

      @ artu: yes, it's Vray 1.48.

All right, now here are some latest images of that interior temple.

I am working on another project at the same time.

Here are some WIP from a couple weeks ago.

This is the latest WIP as of last weekend.

I decided to make the hallway larger and added more details on the ceiling.

Wow, it's past 2 am. Need to get some sleep.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day!

I'd really like to know what other plugins you use when modeling. SketchUp's default tools leave a very nasty taste in my mouth...

Re: Personal projects (Sci-fi and Fantasy)

@ gallystops: LOL, thanks for your comments.

Here are the answers to your questions:
                Computer Specs:
                Dell XPS 8100
                Intel® Core™ i7-870 Processor at 2.93GHz
                12GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (2 x 2GB)(2 x 4GB)
1.5 GB Nvidia Quadro FX 5600

Images took an hour to 8 hours to render depending on the size and how many lights are on (omni, rectangular).

@ Devin: here are some examples of plugins I use --> Extrude Edges by Rails, Extrude Edges by Loft, chamfer along path, lines to tubes, mirror, path to face, push pull, and many more. You can find them here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/view...8b1df55c8c821b

@ mebo: Thanks, I am glad you like them. Please feed me with compliments...j/k

@ Sanjeev: Sure, bug me anytime if you need help. But it will take me a while to reply though.

Here are some images from last week. I added more details on ceiling and walls, two new knights in shining armors, and some minor changes. Again, these are just raw renders. I will do photoshop postwork when i have time.

So I have to stop working on these as well as the interior temple that you saw before. Indeed I started a new model (Starship) for a contest due in 3 weeks. More sleepless nights ahead but it will be worth it. The prizes are so sweet. http://news.deviantart.com/article/128272/

Here's the stuff I have so far. I have spent about 5 days working a few hours each night.

This will be my biggest model. The length is 1 km. The little dots you see are the human scale. Yup, this ship is huge. I will try to put as many details as I can. I hope I can finish it on time.

Thanks for viewing and have a terrific week!

                        Hi guys,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

@ Fernando: Thank you. I am quite impressed by all your tutorials that are very helpful. Please post more.

@ Teo: The interiors of the temple and the castle were personal projects that I started before knowing about the Vray contest. I was thinking about working more on them and enter them. But then the EVE build me a staship contest came up, therefore I had to stop working on the interior renders since the prizes were so good to miss out. Also, I saw your entries (The Architect Office) that really blew my mind and I told myself I should run and hide. I might be good at Sketchup modeling, but you are the Master of Vray and I wish I could have a fraction of your skills.

@ Dave: Maybe because I am using Sketchup PRO!....j/k ;D Thanks for you nice comment. Albert Einstein once said : "Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited...".

@ gallystops: Yes, it's a really huge ship. The dimensions are: 1000M (length) - 450M (width - it will be larger as I still have to add something on one side) - 450M (height).

@ Teo: Thanks for your nice comment. Yup, about a 5-6 days...but in the universe where I live, a minute is like a day on earth time.....you know, like in Narnia movie. ;D

@ Fernando: Well, my dream is to work for the movie in the future. Making 3D conceptual models for movies like Star Wars, star Trek, Avatar, etc.

Here's stuff from last night. I added details to the engines/exhaust. I will have to do the same thing with the rest of the ship. I will go back and add details later.

Thank you for viewing. Take care,
