Just did a quick check on the tree shots and they were only 1,8 adaptive dmc area, adaptive amount 1.0 and Irmap / lc. It was onyx for the tree meshes cached out to proxies in most cases except when I had to do animated trees for some movement which is quite difficult - the wind parameters aren't great for getting natural results easily in my opinion.

Nope - titles done by a different company over the course of two years! A company called elastic did it and there's a really good write up of it here - http://www.artofthetitle.com/2011/05...me-of-thrones/
I haven't heard anything on the next season Rivoli, there's a couple of very large scale water battles and fully cg wolves to be done though which are a bit beyond where I'm at personally. I've seen maybe three or four companies pull off furry creatures well and they're slightly higher cost than the budget for season one anyway

Awesome work John and great breakdowns.
I finally made the move from arch viz work into the weird and wacky world of film. Just moved from Perth to Melbourne, with a quick side trip to Ireland in the middle,so at the moment I dont have a Tv which makes it a tad difficult to watch the TV series, but will be getting one soon and this is top of my list to watch. I was a big fan of the book series which the author has yet to finish. The last book took 6 years and there are 2 more to go, wonder what will happen when the Tv series catches up with the books.

Great to here you've switched Peter, hopefully you're looking at illoura, they do some gorgeous work! To be honest your eye for material, lighting and photographic detail would be a huge asset for a film or vfx company. I'm not sure how long it takes you to attain the level of realism you normally get in your renders but the fact that you can get up to higher standards than most has gotta be a big advantage for whatever company you work for!
