I thought I would start a wip thread of this project I am currently working on. I will be working on this from design development stage (current) all the way through to marketing material (in the new year) If people find this interesting I will keep updating. At this stage I am working with the architects, cad drafters (ADT) on general design/viz. I'm also using this stage to rough in some of the lighting/look I would like for the final promotional material. (Hence the rocks that look like blubber)

    Some Details:
The best way to import ADT files into Max6 is using Viz Render .DRF files. The DRF file respects layers, objects, lighting and materials from Viz render. I find the integrity of the geometry infinitely (x1000) better than that from .dwg import. I highly recommend going from ADT->Viz render component->Max6.

The water is a snapshot of dreamscape geometry, I needed the infinite ground plane. I think I will render some sort of depth map of dreamscape water and displace the pool water.

The lighting is a sun system and skylight from an HDRI map/dreamscape sky.

The rocks are a stand-in and displacement test. The final revetment wall will be considerably different. I'm still "yawn" waiting on detail.

I will update my website soon--ish with some of my vray works over the last couple of months for those who are interested in arch-viz.

Sorry about the whole angelfire thing but the company firewall blocks my website html upload utility from work.

    Hi Richard,

It looks well on it's way to being something special.
Interesting to here what you've said about the VIZrender files. Always looking for ways to increase this part of my workflow process.....then there is the price....
Good to see you've made the switch to Vray and look forward to seeing the final image.

    Regards,

    Chris.

      Hi Richard,

Very nice wip, the project is great but I'm a little concernened about the emplacement, me being an architect can't help but think about some natural phenomena, e.g. a hurricane.

I thought that you where a beta tester for final render stage 1, did you decided to change? and if so why?

Keep posting I would like to learn more about your workflow with adt, viz render and max6... and of course Vray.

Please tell my you are going to post your material settings. That water material is spectacular. Just a tad dark, but still spectacular. Me want.

Keep posting. Looking foreward to your progress.

I am still on the finalrender beta, we purchased a few copies of Vray for this project, it's actually an entire island with hundreds of apartments, buildings, houses, villas and landscaping. The AA requirements were very heavy and we had a very short timeframe, this is why we are using Vray for the job. Rendering geometry water/trees is difficult to say the least with the current release builds of FR, we couldn't wait for SP1+ builds. Don't ask me which renderer I prefer, they both have good and bad points. I just think FR's "current" release problems are a bit more detrimental to usability and performance. Good things will come soon for FR owners.

I like the house, really my kind of architecture. The image and architecture have a lot of potential to beeing a great arch viz render.

So where is this island located ?

A full render queu is a thing of beauty !

              Erik,

It looks like the middle of the Atlantic Ocean...-LOL

Rhino - GREAT WORK so far, I cant wait to see the updates. Do you have some settings for us?

                nice

                nice,
can you tell us what map did you used for the displacement of the water?

The house shows real promise- but Miguel correctly brings up the key issue. Very fitting for Lina Wertmuller's movie "Swept Away". =)

                    Nice one!

Apart from the blubber-rocks I really like it.

                        Richard,

I'm not asking, just curious, not interested in the "who is better than who" debate, your work whit fRis very good so hence the question.

                        Keep the good work.

Richard, I like the design very much as well as the image (water and all white house is great). Can't wait to see a finished image of this project!

you're right!! I had the same impression when I saw it the first time.....hehehe ...

looks good, though.....I like the design as well....

The Island, (if you can call it that) is located on the Gold Coast Australia. I will have to render the background separately. There are more houses to the left and right of the house, an inlet to the right and 3 5-8 story apartment blocks in the background. We are really packing out that lump of sand, hehe. The island sits behind the sand bar so while it has a strong current passing, it's in no danger from (fingers crossed) natural disaster, except maybe getting overrun by rats. The water material is simple it's all geometry using the adaptive infinite plane in dreamscape (wicked program) and a simple Vray mat with a bit of fog. Materials aren't really a vray strong point, using geometry (displacement) and pure raytracing glossy is where vray shines. Vray gets bogged down when using complex material trees and shellac type blends so best to keep it simple. I'm making a depth map from DSwater this morning and I will try displacement on the pool water, just depends on hard geometry/displacement rendertime. Displacement is a bit more flexible so I'm leaning that way.
