hmmmm thats actually a good point, i used a night hdri and my multiplyer is pretty high, second to that i placed a rectangular light as well....i wonder if thats whats causing super soft shadows...how would you set your interior lighting andybot? If you have no critics you'll likely have no success.

I really like using the spotlights - and since your lighting is indicated by the lights in the ceiling - that is where I would start. The nice thing with spotlights is that you can set the cone angle, penumbra angle, and radius - which all help cast gentle shadows around the furniture. I have examples in some of my renderings on my website. I'll post some links when I have a chance.

Newgate, I have an example for you showing how I use spotlights for interior rendering, see this image: http://orbandesign.andyorban.com/gal...0044630741.jpg
My spotlight settings are the following (with a fairly wide spread - you can decrease the cone angle to 0.6 or 0.8 for a narrower beam):
Physical camera is on
Intensity: 2100 - Lumious Power
Decay: Inverse square
Penumbra falloff: linear
Cone angle: 1.6
Penumbra angle: 0.4
Shadow radius: 5.0
shadow subdivs: 12 (you can use higher for smoother shadows)
I also have a rectangular light just below the ceiling that is hidden (and hidden from reflection) to give some more general illumination.
