Very nice modelling and lighting. Has an old school feel to the lighting IMO. I guess its because you are not using GI

The last couple of jobs I've opted not to use GI at all. We've been using Vray for I don't know how many years - since very early betas anyway. Throughout most of that time, we've used GI (using the various techniques that came available for that particular release). Our animation has also used GI.

We have now started using a vray ambient light, a vray sun and vray sky and vray dirt. I'm now starting to wonder if GI is really necessary - certainly for outdoor type shots. Does it really add enough to warrent the extra time/fuss? Certainly with animation, my eyes have been opened and now I can animate objects without worrying about saved GI solutions! I'm freeeeeeeee!

      I'm going 'retro'!
      Kind Regards,
      Richard Birket

yeah added on top of that motion blur and glare/bloom past. For exterior maybe it is alot easier to bypass the use of GI.

Very nice. Im surprised you can get that kind of lighting without GI. Probably my lack of knowledge with regards to lighting. Was this a simple light setup and a vray ambient light ?

What is the ratio for the render time beetween "with GI" and "without GI" ? In my mind, some VrayLights are time killer without GI... no?

I used 3 vralights, 2 on the top and 1 for background without reflect! The time is the same with GI, this case at least.
I love to render without GI because it is very realistic, it seems that with GI on I can not get it.

                  Thanks
