The last couple of jobs I've opted not to use GI at all. We've been using Vray for I don't know how many years - since very early betas anyway. Throughout most of that time, we've used GI (using the various techniques that came available for that particular release). Our animation has also used GI.
We have now started using a vray ambient light, a vray sun and vray sky and vray dirt. I'm now starting to wonder if GI is really necessary - certainly for outdoor type shots. Does it really add enough to warrent the extra time/fuss? Certainly with animation, my eyes have been opened and now I can animate objects without worrying about saved GI solutions! I'm freeeeeeeee!
I'm going 'retro'!Kind Regards,
Richard Birket

What is the ratio for the render time beetween "with GI" and "without GI" ? In my mind, some VrayLights are time killer without GI... no?i ll be back
