  • Amelanchier tree - my 1st Grow FX creation

    Hi guys,

i ve just finished making an Amelanchier tree (or something close to it), this was my 1st time creation of foliage in Grow FX.
Ive shared the source file with textures and mats on the www.exlevel.com for those interested in using it for your vizes.
    Youll find it here:
    http://exlevel.com/forum/index.php?/...4-amelanchier/

    Here is the render:

    Hope you like it

    Best Regards

Very good start, I dunno the difficulties in modelling plant in growfx but this seems very cool.
    BTW thx for sharing.

i am making a new version at the moment, with more advanced materials and improved geometry....will upload soon.
Some people say that GrowFX has a very steep learning curve but i think it not that bad....will take 2-3 days of playing and youre pretty much set for making your own stuff.
Of course the more advanced thinkgs will take considerably longer to master
Just wish i had more time to play with the soft...its incredible

yes its a very powerful bit of software.. and once i have time to play more im sure ill enjoy using it. i would say the interface could do with a bit of TLC but once you know where everything is ( and possibly have all the floating windows on a second monitor) it shouldnt be a problem.

yep...second monitor is a MUST here..
Eduard told me he will be working on some nice additions this year such as collisions etc..cant wait....i am actually in a stage when i would do anything to make trees all days long

have you played much with metameshes? its the killer feature for me, but a) ive not got the mapping to work well so far, and the controls are rather cryptic and b) i dream one day it will generate quads so we can sculpt the meshes in mudbox after( or use ptex so the mapping isnt an issue ).. that would be awesome. edouard seems to be a top guy though, so hopefully enough people buy his software so he can develop all those extra features we ask for

this is all ive done so far.. not even got to the texturing stage, as real work has intruded.. i have plans for some really organic, high res. forest animation when i have some free time. if i ever do.

nope...havent got a chance to try metameshes yet :-/ but i know where youre aiming, yes for me the perfectly detailed tree would be sculpted in afterwards )))

anyway, here is a final update for this tree:

It looks great especially the close-ups,

                      ...BUT...

I often wonder, where can I use a tree like this? When I look at evermotion etc collections, they are full of exotic, special situation trees, I will never be able to use in a project.
It's very hard to find "architectural" trees, with trimmed branches (trees in the streets are trimmed so that the lower branches wont get in the way). It's also necessary to be able to "see through" a tree. Clients want to see their building behind the tree.

My favorite trees are from rendering.ru, autumn collection. I wish I would be able find more "low key" trees...

                        thanks!
actually its type of tree i tend to use a lot in my projects because my architect likes using it...this is just one variant when its still kinda small , but it blooms nicely too an can grow up to 5m tall, where it gets more "transparent".
Nothing against rendering.ru stuff ...afterall its all created in GrofFX....but i just wish they sold the OPEN variants for the Grow FX users cos their trees as they sell them are so bad for closeups :-/

i would like to specialize more on typical garden or orchard trees to use around villas etc.

I'm almost sure they made their trees with growFX

i would LOVE to use growfx but the learning curve i fear is too steep for me.
i jsut wish it had a decent library of the kind of trees plastic_ is talking about
i only use about 10% of my total library of trees - the rest are decorative rubbish

Compared to understanding dmc, growfx is a piece of cake
