  • don't you just hate trees in winter?

Well I do, specialy when they're in front of buildings when you have to do a photomontage. I gave up after a day of cutting and pasting and erasing and rubber stamping. I don't feel like painting a million branches back again.

    Finaly some modern architecture again.

Quite agree - branches are a pain!

I can't quite work out what is causing the shadow to about the 2 meter height on the walls of your building. It looks like you have a ground plane which is hidden from the render but still affecting the daylight from passing through to the areas below it.

Maybe the original photgraph will clear up the shadow thing.

I could've left it out but then the contrast with the dark ground was too harsh. There's allways a problem with these montage that have dark shadows and a dark shadow side. If you make the shadow side of the building match the darkness of the photo, you'll have a nice montage but a not so happy client. And the other way around...well, that's the other way around. Let's see what the client thinks of it.

        Fair enough!

Maybe try adding a bit more orange/yellow into the sunlight. You can see in the original photo that the sun is strongly coloured - I guess the photo was taken early/late in the day.

        Good look with the client!

            Hi Marc,

Nice image... I can almost feel your pain when cleaning the image.... oh god.

BTW, I think the shadow at the right building needs to be different, i.e., if you see at the original photo you can note that the shadow is parallel to the street, and falls down right below the window at the right corner...

In the left building it appears to be ok, I think.

But, well, may without these tree shadows could be better, IMO.

            Just my 2 cents,
            Joao.

I know what is like to been cutting some damn trees 2 or 3 days just to get a good photomontage, so when im going to do one, i DONT let the client take the picture, ill go and take it myself (at a little extra charge) and if it still has some trees to be cut, ill tell them:
Well here's a good picture we can use, but i think if we let the trees there it's going to distract a lot from the principal object (Building) so my suggestion is that we remove almost all the trees in front of the building, well just let a few ones on the sides. Almost all the time works fine, and for those persistent clients that want all the trees and cables and stuff in front of it, i charge that too, but u cant go too far away with the price on that.
              Best Regards.

              Jorge Zamudio.

Oh, yes, cutting all the trees, no trees in front of the building. I like that.
The problem is that one of the purposes of this rendering is to show the neighbourhood that no trees will be cut for this new building (well, I cut one, but they won't notice, I hope).

                Hey, Leon, back from Atlanta?

                    hello!

i am just wondering, why you don't just brighten the foreground...

i took your photo, cut out the new buildings and applied more brightness (+33 in photoshop, and a little less contrast) and the picture looked more friendly...

i would give it a try...

                    so long
