Watch for the dinosaurs at 11 seconds. Don't blink or you'll miss it though That was lit and rendered in Vray/Maya.
Each one of those dinos has probably...3 or 4 lights on him. The Dinosaurs in the back I used IES lights mapped with black and white images of trees to cast mottled shadows like light filtering down through the leaves. I had a hard time using a gobo on the other lights. I think maybe the rectangle soft light is too soft to cast those harder shadows so I ended up using IES lights even though I'd never used them before.
The dino in the front was lit with a couple IES lights because I liked their directionality. Then there was a rectangle light that was used only for a reflection in the eye to get a little hit.
All the dinos were also lit with an HDR for general fill but it wasn't controlled enough for how I wanted them to look.
