    hi there!

    heres a little VRay FREE test. That orange/yellowish thing in the middle is a vitamine pill/capsule ...

    Does anybody else have experiences in creating icecube with VRay FREE? Show them!

    looks not much like ice but nice.

        maybe you can achieve some glossiness by adding a very small scaled noise map to either refraction or bumpiness.

        works well for reflection but not sure about refraction though.

          a small pool of melt water would do the trick

            ice does not melt like that if you leave it in open air. try a softer noise and try adding melt modifier. and also... avoid bubbles inside your ice. bubbles tend to raise and disappear before the water gets hard... otherwise it will look like a plastic paperweight. a long streak of crystals inside would do.
            if you find a bug...kill it.

              there is a glossy option in the vray map, try low subdivs that become noisy, maybe you'll have some luck.
              Anyway I like the look already.

                    This is my old work from december 1998. (Softimage 3.8 + mental ray + some Photoshop).

                    I'm not into 3D any more, but i like to browse through forums...
